Blu-ray Grand Duke

Surprised there's not a thread for this. Just watched it and it's pretty solid. Really good performances from Costner and Gadot. The plot has some issues but the rest of the script (dialog, characters) is good. Has a really terrific electronic soundtrack, loved every second of that. If you like action movies with a melancholy edge and don't mind smaller production values you might like this as well. Give the trailer a shot, the movie holds up if you like the trailer.
Blu-ray looks perfect of course. Movie has that modern flat digital look a lot of the time but quality cinematography goes a long way toward making up for it. Interestingly it has a director's commentary but only over 40 minutes of the movie, played a separate feature. Never saw that before. |

Great concept coupled with a fantastic cast, such a shame the directing was very poor. Will probably pick this up for really cheap just for the cast.

Yeah it might definitely be a cool path to take, especially for directors with less amusing personalities. I'd love for someone to edit Ridley Scott's commentaries down to the interesting bits.
![]() P.S. I don't get the site review of this movie. Obviously calling it bad is opinion, but the review doesn't really explain what it so bad about it. Yes the concept is silly but so is the concept for damn near any genre movie. Give me more if you're going to bash it with 2 stars. |

Thanks to the good reviews you guys are giving this movie, I just placed an order for it. I like these types of movies anyway, and I'm a big fan of Kevin Costner, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to like this. Thanks guys.

I like how all 4 main actors have appeared in a Batman movie.

Hope you guys enjoy it. It's not gonna be for everyone, but if my review sounded good to you and the trailer looked good then I am sure you'll like it. They don't make lower-key R-rated action movies like this much anymore, not with a decent budget anyway.

This was not a very good movie. So much potential but it always seemed to go down the most easy route. Also felt like a lot of stuff got taken out.
Was surprised Alice Eve was billed above the title when she had maybe five total lines. |

I saw her name in the credits and was waiting for her to appear the whole movie. At the end I was like wait... where was she? Then I realized she was that secretary character with a few lines. Weird.

![]() Quote:
Tommy Lee Jones was pretty much wasted in an essential role that became sporadic. When Jericho said his father threw him out of the car when he found out he wasn't his biological son, I was expecting some big reveal that Dr. Franks was Jericho's father which was how he knew about him and had easy access to him, but that would've required actually doing something more with the Franks character besides disappearing from the plot until he was needed. |

Fans of this movie will want to purchase it instead of renting it. A family member that I know rented Criminal on Blu-ray. The Lionsgate rental version does not contain any extra features except trailers. To make matters worse Lionsgate reduced the sound quality of the rental version to lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital instead of using lossless 5.1 DTS-HD Master audio.

Picked this up for $6 during Black Friday weekend and enjoyed it, especially at that price. I really like Keven Costner as a villain or character that is outside his usual "good guy" persona. I liked him in Mr. Brooks as well.

This is a really good movie, very enjoyable but I can't believe the similarities to 3 Days to Kill. In both movies Costner plays a guy suffering from some kind of condition that impedes his ability to get his job done. Obviously he's more of an anti hero in Criminal but the two movies do share similar story elements. They make a good double bill and Costner is terrific in both.

This should be a straight up bad movie. But it's like they had a terrible script, and then suddenly Costner's character was unwilling to play along with the terrible script, so he keeps things interesting for a while. And Costner himself is pretty great in the role. Last twenty minutes were disappointingly generic, but I love that Costner's motivation was mostly just not liking it when other people mess with him.
I'm also really amused by the idea of Ryan Reynolds getting his mind placed into an old man's body, since the genre is so stereotypically in the other direction that Ryan Reynolds himself was specifically the young body that an old man got his mind placed into in a movie IN THE SAME YEAR. |
