Why Buy PS3? Sony's Secret
Sony's president tells why now's the best time to latch onto the console.

What's the number one reason to own a PS3 right now?

According to Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton, the console is "future proof," that's why.

"The original PlayStation lasted ten years -- a tremendous innovation when other platforms died and were all but forgotten," Tretton told us in a recent interview. "The same thing is going on with the PS2, and I think that will be the case with the PS3."

He went on to say, "I don't think we expected nor we need to capture the lifecycle of the PS3 in the first nine months. We want to build evangelists, one consumer at a time, and it involves sacrificing in the short term before paying off in the long term."

Regarding the fact that some PS3 games often release weeks after their Xbox 360 counterparts, Tretton said, "We're taking all our development findings and investments and passing them onto the third-party development community.

"We are physically going to studios and working with them hand-in-hand. You will start to see that bear fruit in the near future."

I wonder how many times does SONY have to say it that "all playstation systems are on a 10 year support cycle".NAYSAYER'S are haveing a hard time with this simple concept... it seems. Tell this to the game developer's. its a stable game development platform that will be in production for 10 years. tell this to movie studios they see the install base of playstation 2 and see what it did for DVD.

and the typical lifespan of a microsoft product is around 2 years maximum. Just count how many operating systems they have put out in the last 12 years. The xbox (original ) lasted 18 months. Now the 360 is getting close to that. I love my PS3. If you average it out 500 bucks over 10 years, will be like paying for a Xbox live subscription.

The original XBox came out in 2001. 360 came out in 2005. That's four years, not 18 months.

I'm completely happy with my buy. I got mine about 6 months ago and never once regretted it even for a second. And in my mind there is no shortage of games. The games that I have for the PS3 are amazing and I still haven't gotten bored of playing any one of them. I feel no need to go out and buy a new one at this time. I have lots to choose from as it is. Plus I still have so many PS2 games to play it's ridiculous.
I'm going to concentrate my money on Blu-Ray movies for the time being, maybe when a new game comes out that I have to have I'll buy that, but for now movies all the way!

I agree. Shortage of games? Just get Oblivion! I have Rainbow 6, GRAW and F1 Championship, all of which I haven't played yet at all. Oblivion on the other hand has taken exactly 123 hours of my life, and counting!

LOL, GOOD POST. + cost of Xbox, that with add ons keeps climbing past the cost of PS3.

There are a lot of people who want and will buy the PS3. Its a matter of cost at the moment. This will come down and people will BUY, Buy and BUY.

PS3 will be on top!!

Its funny how PS2 is still selling more than x-box and wii.
