I always skipped getting the first on BD until this comes out so it's nice to see it happening.

About time!

Love this movie. Almost as good as the first one. So many great one-liners.

To quote Kent Brockman "Its about f**king time". Now bring on the sequels to "Caddyshack", "Cannonball Run", "Weekend at Bernie's" and "Smokey and the Bandit".

This is one of the worst sequels ever. At the time there were 8 Fletch books to adapt to a sequel and Gregory Mcdonald had even written a few of them as prequels with Fletch still working as a reporter (he ends up with Stanwyk's money at the end of the original book and never returns to the paper) to make them easier to adapt as sequels. I believe Fletch Lives was a spec script Universal crapped out just to get something filmed before a looming writer's strike, and it shows. Fletch is more than just a Chevy Chase vehicle, you take Mcdonald's novel away and it is one, and not a very good one.

Over the years I've never watched this without watching it as part of a double feature with the first and that certainly doesn't do it any favors either.

I was never a fan of the original Fletch - it was OK - but I couldn't even make it passed the half hour mark on Fletch Lives -- and I tried twice!

Yer arse, Fletch Lives is a great film. It was the first film given a five star rating by Empire.

Yeah that's more of a strike against Empire's credibility than a feather in the cap of this awful movie.

Man, I read all those Fletch novels as a kid. Always thought it was strange they didn't bother to adapt another McDonald novel; I remember even loving the prequels, Fletch Won and Fletch Too.

The sequel's not a bad way to kill ninety minutes, but I'd say Guru's right about the script. Haven't seen it since I was barely out of shortpants, but even then I missed the wit and (especially) the stakes of the first one.

I likewise read Gregory McDonald's novels and Fletch And The Man Who and Fletch And The Widow Bradley would've made terrific movies, IMO. I get a kick out of Fletch Lives (and love Cleavon Little), but I understand anyone frustrated by the fact that one of McDonald's novels wasn't adapted for the sequel.

There was so much talk of rebooting Fletch over the years, damn shame nothing ever came of it.

It's too good, and too recognizable, so it's almost a lock not to happen.

I read all the books an enjoyed them but they're a different animal from the films. These are primarily Chevy Chase comedy vehicles and what I like about compared to most of his work such as the Vacation films where he plays a bumbling fool, he's actually smart and dryly sardonic as Fletch. Except when he's in disguise at which point he acts like an idiot to disarm those around him, almost sinking to the level of the fools around him.

They didn't use that for the DVD cover. Seeing as how the first film used the same cover for the bluray as the DVD, I wouldn't expect much. The Australian release used the original poster art though.
