If every time a dark scene comes up in a movie and that breaks the illusion and instantly takes you away from the well-crafted, cathartic experience and reminds you that you are simply staring at moving pictures again (ruining it for you), then yes, go get the SXRD. It's fantastic! I have the 60" A2000 model and love it!

The SXRD's are fantastic. The drawbacks are that they are not as thin as the LCD sets......you will have to eventually replace the bulb.....and even though they handle room light better then past RPTV's, you still need a dimmer room.
The price is right on these babies too! |

I had the 50 sxrd and returned it for the 46 xbr2. the tv is amazing. do not judge it by what you see at a store. if you get it I can post specs to fine tune it. from when I tuned mine I was able to sit 3 feet closer because the grain went away so much. im now between 7.5 and 8 feet away. also after tuning it the black levels got really good and the colors are now perfect. I watched the first pirates movie last night and it was amazing. let me know, ive tuned the tv for 3 of my friends now so I have the spec sheet. also it makes standard def look so much better.

![]() Also make sure you turn "ON" the built-in light sensor. It will reduce or eliminate clouding in a dark room. (i.e.-you watch the news around 6pm and theres is some light in the room and then afterwards you watch a movie and its 8pm and dark outside; the tv does not have to be as bright. Turning on the sensor will help a lot) |

First, not to be too nit-pickey but some SXRD rear projections LCD's are designatred XBR's. I'm assuming you're weighing one of the flat panel XBR's against one of the rear projection models with SXRD.
I have the 60" XBR2 and it's great. It has consistently been in CNET.com's top 5 HD televisions, regardless of type, since introduced. And it comes with a spare bulb, currently worth about $300. As noted, it doesn't have the sexiness of a flat panel, which may or may not be factor depending on where you plan on putting it. I can tell you, though, when it is dialed in, I think the PQ is better than the Sony flat panels. I'd only rank the big Pioneer flat paels higher. The A2000/2020, and this summer's version, the A3000, have most of the same guts (including SXRD) for several hundred less. Overall, if you're willing to accept the deeper size, I'd say the Sony A2000/3000's have been the best bang for the buck for any HD TV out there for over a year now. |

You've got to realize that not all tv's will look the same, thats why they're adjustable. If every tv looked the same then Sony would have calibrated them in the software and shipped them without the adjustment menus. I followed the calibration specs that talbers23 posted and it made my tv look like a 15yr tube tv. The whites turned completely dull yellow-ish and the tv wasn't as sharp or clear. People's faces looks blotchy. In order to properly calibrate YOUR tv YOU need to buy a disc or pay somebody to bring the professional $10,000 equipment to your house to PROPERLY calibrate the tv. |

he is just messing with u, dont u know? lol it's human nature, cuz in reality, LCD is no match to a top of line SXRD, and no matter how he tunes it, the TV will never achieve the kinda black level u would like to have on a set. as soon as he gives out the specs ppl would reply and say "he knows nothing", etc and that's why he hasn't posted anything since.

I didn't do a whole lot to mine. I have been too cheap to get a real calibration done but I did use the Terminator 2 disc to get the process started.
This is what I have right now from the THX optomizer.(keep in mind: what looks good on my tv, might not look good on yours) Picture Mode: Vivid Backlight: 7 Picture: MAX Brightness: 54 Color: 62 Hue: 0 Sharpness: 64 Noise Reduction: Auto DRC Mode: Mode 1 Power Saving: Off Light sensor: On ***Turning on the light sensor is key** 1) It will prolong the life of your tv 2) Reduce or eliminate clouding (Eliminated mine) 3) Won't hurt your eyes as badly at night. |
