Default Sony XBR2

I just would like to know the opinion of some owners of the Sony XBR2 tv. I have read many reviews of the uneven backlighting on this set and i have the oppertunity to pick one up for $1,000. is the uneven backlighting a big issue on this set or any other downfalls? any thoughts?

I have a similar set, from the same time but a lower model number .. the backlighting is a little uneven, but the ONLY time you notice is if the entire screen is one dark colour... and stays like that for a while...

I've never noticed it during an actual movie, usually only when going through setup options or some kind of static screen like that.

For $1000 I'd grab it in an instant.... assuming good condition of course!

the clouding was a problem, only if youre looking for it. Youll love the set.

Can't go wrong with Sony or Samsung. Samsung makes the screens that Sony lcd tvs use. These two are the best except perhaps for the Pioneer Pro plasma which costs about 5 times as much and uses quite a bit more electricity.

The 60" XBR2 has consistently been in cnet.com's top 5 regardless of type, since it came out. I got one in March and it's been fantastic. Kinda big, though, with those speakers. But a stunning picture.

I have a 40" xbr2 and will say that yes, there is some clouding when the entire screen is dark, but if you turn the backlight down from max to like 7, it is minimized.

Its a great set. As said before the backlighting issue will only be seen on static solid color screens. Actual content looks fantastic.

an xbr2??? for $1000??? and you're THINKING about this?? my best friend and i went shopping last week and he was salvating over the 70" xbr2 in a store, showing a nature scene and i'll admit its detail blows my samsung DLP out of the water. FYI...that price tag was $6000!

Default It's a Great Deal

I sell the XBR2 where I work, and people love it (actually sold 2 today). I have noticed the clouding, but many people do not finding annoying and still prefer it over most other LCDs. Sony and Samsung make some of the most stable LCDs out there, and $1000 is a great deal, we have them for $2100. The only LCDs we sometimes have a bunch of issues with are older Sylvania's and LG's.

...anyways, that is a great deal, you should buy it if it is in good shape.

I have the XBR3 and couldn't be happier in a tv. For a $1000, pull the trigger and enjoy. You won't regret it!

I have the 46" XBR3 and couldn't happier. The clouding is NOT and issue when you turn on the built-in light sensor. The light sensor will dim the screen at night and get rid of the clouding.

I have had it for about 7 months and I am on my 3rd one. Sony had to exchange it two times. I love the tv but it has been a hassle and they still have the problem, just not as bad.
