Default To Canadians. Why do we still get ripped off? AMAZON etc

Its offical. Our currancy is on par with the US. First time in over 30 years.. Yet amazon.ca still rips us a new hole.. 23,95 Blus on amazon.com compared to 34.99 on .ca???? you kidding me

this goes with other movies and standard dvds too
this is nuts

I don't know who Amazon.ca thinks are willing to pay those prices. My advice to you is to enjoy the dollar parity and buy from the States.

Because Canadian pricing structure and salaries are still based around the $1.50/60-$1US structure. In other words, $1CA still buys pretty much the same as it did 5 years ago (inflation notwithstanding) in Canada.

It's the same reason Japanese DVDs are $50 each. 80's currency re-evalution.

I hate that too but I just shop at amazon.com instead. It's way cheaper then buying anything at stores or from a Canadian online retailer. Even with the expensive shipping.

amazon.ca isn't the only place doing it though. BestBuy, Walmart, all Canadian retailers sell their BD's for a lot more the American retailers.

One of the worst price differences i noticed is on Blu Ray Stealth. It's $37.56 on Amazon.ca, and only $17.95 on Amazon.com. I feel sorry for any of the poor folks who actually have purchased that title from Amazon.ca

What about Black Hawk down? 31.92$ versus 13.95$! Ridiculous.

Yes I know some might hate me for saying this, but I think we here in the United States should have a common currency with Canada, just like the Euros, but US and Canada only. I mean we have the same culture, we all speak English (some speak French, a language which I would love to learn). We should get a common currency. Therefore, we would have a common Amazon, and we should also get a common postal service.

Just a question, in Canada do you have to learn both languages, or do you have choice in school? My dream is for all of us to speak Latin.

You learn a primary language and then you get some classes in the other one, which rarely amounts to much. A small percentage like me get Immersion in the second language so we're bilingual. I don't recall ever being given any choices though unless you meant my parents, yes they chose to put me in immersion.

TorpedoShockWave, this was a huge discussion a few years ago. In fact I remember a specific quote from one of our big finance people in 1998 or 1999 that when a popular US president comes along (they suggested Giuliani actually who was NYC Mayor at the time) who has good ties with Canada that this and other things might be done.

Bush has managed to alienate a good many Canadians however, partly from how Canada has been treated during his presidency, and partly from how he acts towards the rest of the world... So I would guess it would be a while to repair that damage.

Also I don't think they would want to merge our currencies at par - it's not good for either side, so they'd probably try to get it back down to 80 cents first.

Well, I am not a Bush fan myself. I hope someday, we can have an alliance and act as one. We are basically the same, just with different names.

It was mandatory in my province until jr. high.

I remember hating french class and dropping it altogether when I reached grade 7. Now I wish I would have had more interest way back then, having the ability to speak a second language would have been great. C'est la vie.

I'm all for an alliance also - if we ever merged it'd be the end of the republican party though, even Democrats are conservative by Canadian standards lol.

I wouldn't actually want to see a full merger though - better to keep the two votes on international matters...

Minimum wage depends where you are in the states. For example in Massachusetts it is $7.50 going up to $8.00 in January. In Ohio though it is much less.

Same with Canada. I'm not sure what it is in other provinces but Alberta's is $9 Cdn now.
