Default Hammer on Blu

I know we have a "what horror films would you like" post, but in regards to my reply, anyone know if Anchor Bay/WB is in production of the Hammer films? The colors alone in those movies would look fantastic in HD....mmmmm....Hammer...

Oops title should have been "Hammer on Blu" It's early forgive me

According to an on-line chat (at least a year old) hosted by HOME THEATRE, reps from Warners admitted that their early Hammer DVD releses left a lot to be desired and were grooming some for HiDef release. No titles specific titles were mentioned, but I'd love to get CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and HORROR OF DRACULA. You can probably still access the transcript of the discussion at www.thedigitalbits.com.

Thanks almy. Yeah, I'm a big digitalbits.com fan. Bill Hunt's commentary on the whole format war thing is what finally convinced me to "early adopt". No regrets here, I'm loving it.

On the Hammer thing: Thanks for the link. I really dig Peter Cushing/Christopher Lee, and thru watching those films have grown to love a lot of the other titles in the Hammer film family.

I wish Dracula came with its original British title (Dracula).

They have a website here. They have a lot of info about their movies and some cool memorabilia for sale. Sony is going to release some region 2 DVD's, so there's at least a possibility they could come to BLU.

Outside of the UK, the rights for Hammer Films are all over the place. But a large portion reside with Warner, Anchor Bay and Universal in the USA... so, Universal aside there is definitely a chance of seeing some Hammer Blu!

I may very well be older than a lot of you (I saw CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN when it opened in 1957). Anyway, I remember reading in one of the "mosters" magazines back then that a much bloodier version had been shown outside of the U.S. It would be great if and when, they release the Hammer titles here, through seamless branching, they had multiple versions on one disc. It was the very first Frankenstein film I ever saw since the Universal/Karloff movies had not yet run on TV.

I grew up on Hammer in the late 70's/ early 80's and had 10th generation copies of all of them on VHS. Every time I hear someone complain about PQ and AQ I think of my old horror collection on VHS. Man they don't know what bad is.

Actually, what we need is some AMICUS movies on blu! But a far off dream that is as most Amicus movies haven't even made regular DVD here in the States. That Anchor Bay UK coffin DVD boxset is sweet though (buy it if you're a fan and don't own it yet!).

I've always loved the Hammer films and would probably buy whatever blu-ray Hammer films are put out.

On a sidenote, it's just been announced that they're going back into production:

Quote:
It's called BEYOND THE RAVE and is a vampire story set in London's rave underground. It stars Sadie Frost, Lucy from BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA and features Ingrid Pitt in a cameo role as a character's mother.
