Default HP laptop w/BLueray

I just got a new HP Pavilion dv7-1270us laptop with a Blueray DVD player. Blueray works fine on the lap top display but when I use an HDMI cable to conect to my HD TV I get a message saying that the DVD is "protected" and cannot be displayed. I have tried several dvds and several different TVs all with the same result. Why is this so? I can find nothing in the "help" resouces on the lap top that address the issue. Why would they include the HDMI port if you cannot export the HD DVD? Do I need some special software?

Does anyone out there use an HP lap top Blueray player to view on thier TV?

I am really bummed out. I have a 52" Tv and can only watch Blueray on a little laptop display.

Any help or comments would be appreciated.

You can only view it on one screen. Turn off the HP screen to view it on the HDTV.

I'm assuming you're on Vista. If so...

Right-click any blank space on desktop -> Select "personalize display" -> select "display settings" (at bottom of the screen) -> choose your monitor and apply.

It should be fairly easy to do through the display settings in Vista. You may also be able to do it with a hot-key combo; Fn + F7 is usually the one that does that.

This is major nitpicking OP BUT:
According to the Blu-ray Disc Association the spelling of "Blu-ray" is not a mistake, the character "e" was intentionally left out so the term could be registered as a trademark.

The correct full name is Blu-ray Disc, not Blu-ray Disk (incorrect spelling)
The correct shortened name is Blu-ray, not Blu-Ray (incorrect capitalization) or Blue-ray (incorrect spelling)
The correct abbreviation is BD, not BR or BRD (wrong abbreviation)

and Blu-ray is not a DVD. Yes it is on a disc but it is a different format from DVD.

regardless if you're pointing out that you're nitpicking, the OP posted in here for help, not to be lectured

OP - i have an HP laptop with bluray and I've used an HDMI cable to watch movies on an HDTV before. like brett posted above, follow to instructions to switch screens to the TV only. that's how you get it to work

HP newly launched laptop with Blu-ray or HD DVD drive has good result. Blu-ray burner to its special edition Area-51 laptop--which places such laptops outside the budget of many would-be buyers.
