Default Where is Somewhere in Time?

Come on universal lets get Somewhere in Time released! Its my favorite romantic film and has quite a cult like following. Not to mention the most beautiful woman on the planet (back then) Jane Seymour!

I've been having the same thought. This movie does have quite the cult following and they still have the annual convention on Mackinac Island where it was filmed.

I have the 1.85:1 Special Edition DVD but it looks quite poor to me and it's" not even anamorphic" wide-screen. I don't know what the quality of the original print is since it was a lower budget production. I also suspect the director had an intentionally diffused look to support the time-travel and romance aspect of the story. All that said, they could master a good release if they wanted to.

With all the garbage that has been ported to Blu-ray, I am at a loss as to why this one has not been released.

USA Get on it universal!

I had the privelege of visiting Mackinac Island several years ago, and had my first viewing of Somewhere in Time, on the island where it was filmed. It has since had a special place in my heart. I would LOVE to see Universal do a PROPER remaster and get this baby on Blu-Ray. The music would be amazing in Lossless sound. Please put it on Blu-Ray soon!

Default Somewhere In Time - release this in blu ray please!

I saw the movie many years ago and saw it at different times thru my Netflix. I purchased the DVD collector's edition but was dissappointed. . . that while it was released in 1.8:5 widescreen format as indicated, it displayed in a rectangular frame with 2.5" black bar on the left and right and 1.5" black bar on top and bottom of my new HD LED LCD HDMI flat widescreen monitor set at a required 1920x1080 resolution. Why of all blu-ray and DVD movies in my collection, that I have to encounter this with Somewhere In Time, I just dont know. I'm one of those who love movies to even care for minute cinematographic details.

I wish all old, new and future movies be released in Blu-ray 1080p High Definition as they are displayed flawlessly on my monitor. I also do not have a problem with the letterbox 2.25:1 - 2.39:1, etc. format ( cinemascope/panavision, bausch and lomb lenses) with 2 inches black bar on top and bottom of my screen, for this is how the movie was made originally. To sacrifice by eliminating the top and bottom black bars would also mean to eliminate the original content on the left and right of the screen.

I have old movies released in Blu ray widescreen 1080p HD format. . . one of them is my new import, "A Room With A View". . . and supposedly out of print?

I hope I have ranted enough to convince the biggies to please release it in Blu-ray w i d e s c r e e n 1080p HD format.

P.S. To save time for some readers of this post, I've consulted all necessary tech support assistance and they are all futile. . . this included the "aspect", "picture" features in remote controls or other ways to zoom it. NADA, NOTHING. And, this may not be a problem for others who have them too.

Yes it is stange that this has not been released yet. This film has a huge cult following and I remember the "fan club" was really instrumental back in the day of getting the "Special Edition" released. Maybe those Blu Fans of this film can link up with the Somewhere in Time fan page and see if we can get Universal thinking about this.

USA SIT Blu-ray May Be Coming

I'm very involved with the Somewhere in Time fan club, INSITE, and have been told that Universal hopes to do a SIT Blu-ray in the near future. They apparently had a vault fire, and are still trying to determine what materials were lost.
In the meantime, an anamorphic 16:9 DVD of Somewhere in Time is available in the UK from such sources as Amazon UK. American viewers will, of course, require a multi-region player.

I remember first seeing this on UK TV in the mid eighties. I was a real big Superman fan at the time and decided to see what else Chris Reeve could do.

It was a really nice little film and very touching at the end (so when saw Titanic, I knew were James Cameron got his idea for the ending from and this film popped back into my head watching it at the cinema back in 1998).

I went and got the DVD of Somewhere In Time and found that although the film was in Widescreen, it was not anamorphic and the sound was in duel mono (although I think the film had a mono soundtrack anyway).

There was a nice documentary on the making of the film included so for the price I could not complain (other than the non-anamorphic transfer).

Hopefully Universal will issue this film on Blu-ray with an anamorphic transfer from a restored print and also include the making of doc.

Hopefully they will give us DTS HD MA 5.1 sound or at least lossless 2.0 stereo as the wonderful music score by John Barry is available to listen to on the net in stereo and the film is mainly dialog anyway.

Finally, Jane Seymour looked stunning in this film so a Blu-ray release is a must.
Come on Universal, try your best (or if not, licence it Lionsgate to release).

I couldn't agree more. What a wonderful little film. It's a complete and utter shame that it hasn't had an anamorphic release on this side of the pond. Let's hope it gets rectified sooner rather than later.

This was one of the first films I ever had on home video. The other being Star Trek III. Of course, the format was VHS. Got them for Christmas '86 with my first VCR. A mono 2-head Sylvania model.

I have created a fanpage that people can "like" in order to petition the powers that be to bring Somewhere In Time to blu-ray. If and when we have a very large number of likes I plan to contact Universal about the page and request a high quality blu-ray transfer and/or restoration.
