Thumbs down Warner Doesn't "Get Smart" = Dolby Digital Again

Warner does it again! This movie made $125 million+ but I guess that's not good enough to get lossless audio.

What ever about Get Smart releasing Zodiac without HD audio is unforgiveable.

I could care less for GET SMART on blu --- but this movie did decent business as opposed to SPeed Racer which I loved so I am surprised it doesn't have lossless... I think it is wrong to release it DD only.

Warner needs to do it right or postpone the release until they can do it right.

maybe this is unfair of me, but i still feel deep down inside, that if HD DVD had never existed, we wouldn't be havning these loseless issues with two of the old HD DVD supporters.

This movie really didn't interest me too much. But what's the use of having high definition video and no HD audio. That is just freeking retarded.

Its all about marketing. They can't sell you a 'Get Smart: Special Edition' with lossless audio in two years if the first release has lossless audio. As long as they keep making lossless the standard on high profile releases, I'll be ok (though, not happy).

A new release having lossless audio is not a Special Edition, but should be the regular edition.

Josh,

Are we sure this isn't another miscommunication, similar to Blow?

I agree.

Either way, I won't be buying any Warner title that doesn't have lossless.

When I first got into the format war I didn't know that Warner was playing unfair and not putting lossless on their Blu-ray releases. So, I got suckered into buying Superman Returns with lossy audio.

I'm not rebuying these movies later for a feature which should be automatic.

I pay premium frikkin' prices for this stuff, I expect a premium product - everytime, the first time!

Giving me hi-def PQ and AQ is NOT a "special edition".

But if that's the case, how come the other studios are incorporating lossless on the first release? Even Universal is putting it on their older catalog releases.

I don't think certain persons working at Warner Home Video "get it" yet. Blu-ray should not be approached with the same mindset as DVD or extreme compressed iTunes fake-HD baloney.

While Warner Bros. did a lot to help Blu-ray win the format war against HD-DVD, it's obvious Warner Bros. is not putting in near the effort on Blu-ray authoring as other competing movie studios. Most of their BDs have the same kind of static menu structure. It's like they're copying/pasting through the same template on every movie. It's kind of nice that the movie automatically starts up when you load the disc. But then you get out to the main menu and its just a screen full of text entries that are difficult at first to navigate. Very unimaginative and it smacks of being cheap. So it's not surprising to see WB using BD-25 discs and DD 5.1 whenever the studio feels it can try to get away with it.

You cant really blame this on HD-DVD cuz look at universal, they are all coming out with lossless audio. Warner and Paramount need to get their crap straight.

Um, what Paramount titles are being released without lossless? Yes there were some before the format war was over, but Paramount has had lossless on every title since returning to Blu-ray.

zodiac, its a long movie and its obviously an hd dvd port. i don't think hd dvd had the space for loseless on this movie.

i know, my thinking though is that if loseless had been standard on since the beginning, that we would not being having these problems right now.

however, hd dvd cause loseless to not be possible on certain discs, so WB for some reason doesn't think loseless shouldn't be mandatory on EVERY movie.
