Exclamation Pirates Of The Caribbean Blu-ray Question

I would like to purchase these movies on bluray but I have a few questions

1.If I buy them seperately will I get all of the Extras that were on the dvd release because the Spiderman Trilogy on Bluray had the extras for the first two movies removed?

2.Is It still possible to get the Bestbuy Steel Book Cases in Best Buy Stores?

I don't know these movies had Steel Books

I have not tried to compare the special features cause I don't really care about them much, but yes they do have the steel books in the store (Best Buy).

My best buy had several copies of each steelbook about a week ago. I was lucky enough to get them to price match the steelbook price for the sale price of $14.99 for the regular versions. Steelbooks have all the extras.

I have a question too. I have these on DVD...is it worth the upgrade? That is... is the difference THAT massive?

The reason I ask is because the POTC DVDs look great upconverted and I would like to know to know how much better these films will look on Blu-ray. I'm only interested in upgrading the first movie since the last two, I didn't really care for that much.

Thank you.

PotC blu-rays are reference quality. They look amazing... and the PCM tracks that are on the discs are unbelievable.

And an exaggerated statement and many reviews mimic it. Just bought it for $14.99 at Best Buy today. While it looks great, the difference between the BD and DVD copies doesn't pop out as much as other movies do. I've double-dipped on The Dark Knight and The Bourne Trilogy and the differences popped out at me. But POTC....it didn't have the same effect. It does look good indeed, but Disney Blu-rays don't seem to be as sharp as Blu-rays from Paramount, Universal, and Warner.

Really? The super DNR'd/EE'd and processed look of The Dark Knight seems better than POTC? Maybe the IMAX stuff looks better, but that only accounts for 36 minutes of the film.

I personally think that the POTC movies look amazing. The PQ is worth the upgrade, but so is the sound.

I see more DNR and EE on POTC.

As for the sound though, now THAT is a big difference. Every explosion is much clearer. The DVD sounded dull.

I'm not sure there was much EE/DNR applied to POTC, if at all. The Dark Knight had halo's and noise all over the place. POTC had a natural look to it with grain in tact.

Not sure why POTC isn't that impressive to me. Maybe DMC and AWE look better. I got the first one. I don't want to upgrade the last two.

Why not use this shot?

Lack of detail in Keira Knightley's face. In a lot of BDs I watch, I can see every pore and blemish on the actor's face. The first POTC wasn't like that.

The Blu-Rays are definite upgrades over the DVD's, especially the first which didn't have a great DVD transfer. The third movie seems to benefit the least but it certainly does benefit. Just take a look at some comparison shots.

Curse of the Black Pearl

Dead Man's Chest

At World's End

One note about the extras: The third movie originally came with a bonus disc at Best Buy. These extras are not included on the Blu Rays:

I never said these weren't an upgrade and I never said they were bad. They're just overrated in reviews. Every single review gives it 5 stars in PQ. Movies like Transformers, Monsters vs. Aliens and I, Robot are worth a 5 star rating. POTC 1 deserves around 4 stars.

Maybe because that shot has a softer focus or is in movement so you don't see every pore and blemish on the actress' face?

The other one shows that the quality of the disc is not limited by the transfer per se. And that's the first one.

On some shot of POTC I've even seen facial hairs where I didn't expect them.

Anyway... let's not get into another debate. The POTC transfer is good and let's just leave it at that. I won't continue to get into the pros and cons of the PQ.

Now that I'm upgrading my POTC movies, I was thinking of selling the trilogy on Ebay. And when I was looking at past sales, people are only bidding like $10-13 on them. What the hell? This is happening on every movie I'm uprgading on Blu-ray. The DVD versions have depreciated significantly and are barely selling while its BD counterpart is getting tons of high bids. Hmm, it certainly smells like DVD is dying, if you ask me...

I've had a lot of success selling to co-workers and friends and relatives who aren't blu yet. They appreciate the value of the dvd (u do have to sacrifice a little) then you can lessen the blow of upgrading. Internet hasn't helped my resale of DvD's.
