If anyone is looking for a B&M shopping option, I saw copies of this on the shelf at Target today when I was there to purchase GvK 4K…..would have bought it if I hadn’t already ordered a copy earlier this morning from Amazon (was same price at both: $23.99)

Although I definitely didn’t feel like the target audience for this TWD spinoff, the completion isn’t in me means I have to acquire it sooner or later. With the current 20% off Cartwheel deal at Target, I ordered it for in-store pickup today. When all of the currently-airing TWD shows are finishing, it will be an interesting ride to go back and watch through them all again!

I'm not asking for any details or spoilers, but is this show a necessary tie in to Walking Dead or Rick Grimes?

In other words.....do I NEED to see this series to continue the storyline?

After the first season, not really. There is a tie in with organization that took Rick, but again, no real connection beyond that.

Maybe?
Not tying to be intentionally cryptic or anything, but since this is only the first half of this spin-off, and there is still a long final season of the mothership series left, it’s certainly still possible they may intersect…

This first season definitely provided some very interesting (at least to me) background info and bigger overall “world building” that did tie into some stuff we have only seen small bits about on both TWD and FTWD previously…take from that what you will

Yeah, I agree. I didn’t see anything in the first season of World Beyond that had an important, direct connection to TWD or FtWD, but I agree that it helped give more context to the overall zombie outbreak and added some nice world-building stuff.

With TWD for sure wrapping up after the next season and, presumably, FtWD not far behind (I think it’s been renewed for one more season as of now, right?), I’m glad World Beyond is just planned as a two-season event. It doesn’t feel like this would be the last show standing in the TWD universe.

Uh, so I’m actually in the crowd in screenshot #8. I’m actually in it at least twice since we shot it many times as a smaller group with CG to make us look like a bigger crowd. We shot that on Tues, Oct 22, 2019 at the Virginia State University campus.

Cool! Is this the first time a forum member inadvertently ended up in a review?

No, I’m a whole lot younger than them. I’m like two rows behind the left circle; you can barely see me. I have a navy blue button-down shirt and no facial hair. This wasn’t exactly my biggest work as an actor. LOL They actually wanted us to wear nice dark-colored clothing because they explained to us that it was supposed to be a solemn occasion.

Average cost for extras is around $120 per person a day for 8 hours of work, plus the cost of feeding, and creating an air conditioned holding tent for them on location, unless a building is available.

It can get very costly for extras, and now with the new COVID rules, production has to pay for every extra (cast & crew) to get tested before filming and if used for multiple days, tested multiple times on location during production...AND keep every extra socially distanced when camera's aren't rolling (people are actually hired now to enforce social distance and masking wearing on every production set now.

It's actually cheaper to CGI a smaller group of people than to hire THAT many extras.

At least have them change clothes so it's not a weird exact clone situation lol

There were around 360 extras that day, although not all of us were used for that shot. It was maybe 200-ish, not sure. It was no doubt a cost thing, and this was before COVID. We were there for a couple hours just doing that scene over-and-over in different locations. We did have a change of clothes too, but they never asked up to change into them. It was a pain dealing with so many extras. They had to rent like 3 charter buses and make multiple trips just to transport us a few blocks from base camp to set (normally, we would just walk that short distance).

This was also the SECOND time that was shot. The entire pilot had to be redone from scratch in the middle of shooting for unknown reasons. The original unused version of that scene was actually done at Virginia Commonwealth University.
