Default Do you deprive yourself of a Blu due to lacking extras?

Hey guys, this was a topic a friend and I discussed when I purchased The Thing (Carpenter). Being that my friend was a huge fan of this film, I was surprised to find out that he had not yet purchased it. His reason? - The making-of doc which was available on the DVD release was missing on the Blu-Ray. Now to be fair many of the segments in the doc do make there way to Blu in the form of the U-Play feature, but correct they do not exist as one feature length documentary.

Now here's what I don't get with people like my friend. If you already own the DVD which is loaded with the extras you want, then why not simply make a combo-pack of your own? Many studios are already doing this with catalog titles, that is releasing a Blu sans extras and including the DVD release which includes the extras.

It just seems silly to me.

So question is: Do you hold off buying Blu-Ray titles strictly due to lacking extras it's DVD counterpart had? If so what are your reasonings for it?

Note: I am only talking extras, as both video and audio quality are valid reasons to wait it out for a better alternative.
