![]() ![]() I was just going to ask if anyone had this then noticed this review https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Red-Ro...y-Review/7939/ Verve Pictures's shop has wrongly copy/pasted the spec from the DVD. A definite purchase for me. Great small film. |

quick question, why is this 1080i? Is it because it was shot on digital video or simply because that's the master Verve received (ie no real reason why it cant be 1080p)?
I've been wondering why a lot of the british releases (especially the BBC stuff) is all 1080i. Bleak House was one I was thinking of getting but if they are going to re-release in the future with 1080p. then I would rather wait. |

I'm certain BBC releases 1080i/50 BDs because it's cost-effective to use their broadcast masters for Blu-ray rather than re-scan all the HD material. Remember, the UK is a much smaller country than the USA, and in comparison, they move far fewer Blu-rays than we do. Since the BBC must shoulder most/all the costs of its own releases, cost is more of a burden than it is for USA distributors, who are often part of big production companies.

Not to me!
The BBC is the richest broadcaster in the world. End of story. If you own a TV [and watch broadcast TV] in the UK you must pay them £100+ per year or you will go to jail for evading the licence. If they are knocking out 1080i there will be a good technical reason or it's because they are lazy like any other 1080i producer. This is not a 'BBC film' either, they only invested in it. ![]() Back on topic, this is a great disc transfer but is a bit of a dog's breakfast technically and sadly it does not work on my US player with my usually great Jedi mind trick It's one of very very few B discs that jump to still/pause and have PAL/i content -which cause a problem with a NTSC setup. There may still be a workaround! Still, works great on any computer in the world if you have a Blu-ray ROM of course. |

A pedant writes: Sky's turnover is over £1 billion more p.a. than the BBC and I think a Mexican broadcaster is the most profitable in the world. The BBC is the largest broadcaster in the world but this doesn't make them capable of doing things properly as (if Private Eye is to be believed) next year's Doctor Who will demonstrate.

Do your BSkyB figures compare to the BBC's entire budget and turnover (of their BBC Worldwide division etc)? Either way I said richest and they are indeed that. Very rich in fact thanks to the tax paying public. |
