![]() ![]() May 2010 I have to say this didn't impress me but I did watch it all (so it did something for me). Lacklustre, drab, uninvolving, horrible characters, under and overtones in the religious manner and Viggo (plays Jesus here) never really washes with me. Liked him in LOTR but he was just a very small part in a very big film. The Road is a TINY film actually and can't get passed the short-sighted outlook of the story. CGI didn't impress and there was a ridiculous wide pan shot at the beach which looked like an outake from Gone WIth The Wind. An afterthought, like the whole film's production. £12.99 @ Play.com is quite good though for a brand new release. http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/1...d/Product.html http://www.amazon.co.uk/Road-Blu-ray.../dp/B003819L2G The box says "THE FILM EVERYONE SHOULD SEE". I think they missed the end of the sentence. Ça depend. |

Certainly looks very poor. Bus adverts and trailer look poor. I'll still catch it however. I'm a sucker for post-nuke/apocalyptic films but CGI and preselling rights has afforded lots of really crap films where the story is forgotten about. I liked I Am Legend but I still had serious complaints. Still, it's very watchable and a great Bluray. Budget isn't everything obviously (see Mad Max and the great After the Apocalypse) but the problem seems to be every director wants to make a post-apocalyptic film from Godard (Week End) to Costner (Waterworld). Yes, I consider Week End post-apocalyptic ![]() Zombies are popular too at the moment ![]() |

Somebody with nothing better to do but edit my original title?
The Road (Mad Max without the action, less fuel and no soap) I can see no valid reason for that being removed as it's called 'humour' and it's an opinion. Even though you are a Mod I'm sure you can start your own thread with your own title that fits in your idea of relevance or whatever you thought at the time. I would of thought you'd want people making posts here and not scaring off good content. |

This HMV exclusive comes with one of those "Little White Lies" booklets. I wonder if it will come in a slipcase, like Let the Right One In did? The artwork appears to be identical to the standard case.

Thanks for the link to the HMV exclusive. I've just pre-ordered it (although I already have that issue of LWL's so thats not much of an incentive for me!). I truly loved this film, and while it wasn't an easy watch it was really satisfying. And that scene in the basement was just about the most terrifying thing I've seen in a film all year!

Seriously? Just asking, because if you enjoyed it, it seems like you should appreciate how well written it is. It has some of the most well-written passages I've ever read, up there with parts from Grapes of Wrath and For Whom the Bell Tolls. In my top 5 books of all time. Actually Blood Meridian by McCarthy is even more astounding in its use of language, but it's a much harder read than the Road.
