Arrow Smurfs The Movie

Quote:
The live action Smurfs movie has started casting and they aren’t looking for little blue people. Put down that spray paint Verne Troyer. Odds are the Smurfs will be CGI or something, but the movie will contain humans. That’s right I said humans. In the Smurfs cartoons the only human involved was the evil wizard Gargamel, but for the live action movie it looks like they’re going a different direction. Specifically, they’re casting kids.

Backstage has a casting notice posted by Sony Pictures Animation in which they describe two specific roles they’re looking to fill. Here’s what Sony’s looking for:

Quote:
Sophie: ages 8-10, a girl of great imagination and originality, though always appealing, she is often socially awkward and doesn't fit in with the other kids, she's smart and open, though she can be physically clumsy, when she discovers that the "doll" her father brought home from Belgium is actually a living, breathing Smurf, she takes "Clumsy" in as a member of the family and tries to get the household to embrace him and the rest of the Smurfs.

Sam: 13-16 (to play 14-15), Sophie's brother, a good kid, but he's going through that phase where he can be difficult and withdrawn and retreat to his room to play video games, through his involvement in the Smurfs' quest to get home, he reconnects with his parents and sister.
So if you’re hoping for a magical movie set in a remote, fantasy
village full of Smurfs under assault from an evil wizard, forget it. It looks like they’re taking the Smurfs out of their fantasy environment and turning them into Alvin and the Chipmunks. Instead of mushroom huts hidden in the weeds, they’re plopping them down in the real world where they’ll hang out with awkward kids and video game obsessed teenagers.

Sounds like a complete waste of time to me and I loved the Smurfs growing up. Who knows, could turn out to be quite the childrens' movie?

Unreal. GI Joe, Transformers, Scooby Doo, and now this? Thanks Hollywood for ruining another one of my childhood cartoons.

Sounds like they are going down the route of The Cat in the Hat. And we all know how that turned out. I will probably see this a couple of thousand times as the kids are just getting into Smurfs.

Should be interesting how it turns out. I still buy the seasons that are coming out for the kids.

I think the only possible way that they could make a Smurfs live action movie is if they aim it directly at pot heads, NOT children. 'Nuff said.

I heard about this awhile back, and still can't believe it. I hope they explain why there is only one female in the whole village.

Hopefully, its a dark, re-imagining of the Smurfs' origins.

It's as if The Smurfs was some kind of sacred, epic, life-changing, brilliant series to hear some of you talk about them 'ruining it' with a different perspective in a movie.

Let's bring this back down to earth. It was a freakin cartoon. Whatever they do with it, it'll be a kid's movie. We're not talking about Gone with the Wind here. You guys are so dramatic.

It would just make a better movie to have them be in their village like the cartoon, not turn into another "fish out of water" story. It's been done to death. I know, hilarity ensues as they try to deal in this strange new world they have been thrust into. Blah blah blah.....

+1

This is when Hollywood gets a bit too overboard on movie adaptations.

Someone in the village needs to recycle and she is the only one with a blue box... (insert sound of crickets chirping here as nobody laughs at my pathetic whimsical humour)

I really want to see a bodybuilder Smurf who's totally jacked on roids and HGH, and a profane, cigar chomping mercenary Smurf who wields a Rambo knife in one hand and a P89 in the other.

If they're gonna "reimagine" this thing, might as well go all the way with it.
