Wow, that's crazy! You live so far from the epicenter but you can't even tell from the pictures. Was that damage from the actual earthquake or one of the aftershocks? I think I heard that one of the aftershocks was near Tokyo...

There is a general Tsunami warning for the whole of the Pacific, if you have friends or relatives in the area, please try and contact them and warn them. Remember, the whole of the Pacific is in danger, so try and get the word out.

Wow! Also just like Maximus said, this includes the US West Coast which is under a Tsunami warning.

An 8.9...that's ridiculous. Read that there was over 50 aftershocks and some of them were over 6.0.

I've never been in an earthquake so it's hard for me to imagine exactly what it is like; but having been through many a hurricane, I can wrap my head around the destruction that is left in the path of it and the tsunami.

I'm watching the video footage on the website and it's just overwhelming watching the tsunami envelop everything in its path. Fires have broken out in highrises throughout Tokyo, and likely to occur in other major cities.

My thoughts go out to all of the citizens affected by this tragedy. I have relatives in Hawaii, so I'm concerned about them.

The video footage out now is amazing.... I can only imagine some of the stuff that will surface as time goes on.....

I think after-shocks following an earthquake of this magnitude can last for months too, although likely not as devastating, it's still very hard to begin repairing with that going on.
