Default Blu-ray recorder vs blu-ray player

What is the difference between a blu-ray recorder and a blu-ray player?

Default Re: blu-ray player vs blu-ray recorder

I was just reading the faq on both of these players. If I want to record a movie that is on cable, I would need a blu-ray recorder. If I want to watch a blu-ray movie, I would need a blu-ray player. Is this right? The point is that we'll need two seperate pieces of hardware to watch and record on blu-ray. It would seem a lot easier to make a 2 in 1 type machine for blu-ray.

I can't say for certain but I would think you could play BDs on the Blu-ray recorders. You shouldn't need to have two pieces of hardware when the recorders should be able to do it all.

Default Re" blu-ray player vs recorder

It would make sense to have a 2 in 1 machine that can both play and record blu-ray movies. Sony might include this option for their player, another reason for the delay. I don't think that Samsung's player has any recording features on it. Learning from their mistakes, it's possible that Samsung may release a better model sometime in the future.

Ofcourse.

This two in one machine you're talking about is the recorder.
The play-only device is the player. It's completely the same situation as with DVD.

The only thing that's stopping us from getting blu-ray recorders is that they're not out not. Anyone know the time, other then sometime next year? Recorders both play and record and players just play, don't record.

As prototypes of recorders were released first, I don't think the release of recorders will take a lot longer then the release of the players.

No, it's just getting something out that would replace VCR's. I think that it'll take a least a year, if not more, before blu-ray explodes all over the place. Only Samsung is out now, Sony is next in line. Certain blu-ray movies are out now, but it'll take time before blu-ray players are in every home.

How hard will it be to record to recovers? I currently have a D-VHS recorder and I know you need to use firewire to record and it can be hard to get a cable box/satellite box, that has this type of output.
