United Kingdom Amazon no longer accepting Nectar points for vouchers - beginning of the price rises?

With Play.com, HMV and Blockbuster out of the way, Amazon have announced (via Nectar) that you will no longer be able to trade Nectar points for Amazon vouchers. Is this the beginning of them raising prices now that there's no competitors in the market anymore?

I hope they'll realise that the raising prices will royally piss off those of us (like this forum) that still spend their hard earned money on blus/DVDs in this day and age, when everythings going to stream and downloads.

They'd better stay as they are, but knowing big businesses, things are going to change and not for the better of the people that use them regularly.

Nectar is the creation of Sainsbury (and BP) so they could just be disentangling themselves from what they may see as a competitor, they may be thinking of their own points scheme (Play did) which i think would be a winner. How Amazon use or misuse their dominant position will be interesting, Amazon was built on a model of long term expansion through high turnover and low profit. It'll be worth watching Amazon's profit figures and share price which hasn't done anything spectacular this week.

This.

I doubt Amazon has any control over it. If you look under Nectar Points on the Help page, it even says they still work.

Agreed. Abusing their market dominance will not go down well with collectors.

I have noticed a lot of titles going up. A lot of Masters Of Cinema have gone from 10 pounds to 18.99!

Hopefully the market sellers seize their opportunity and undercut Amazon. I try as much as I can to go with the market sellers and apart from gzoop who were very slow they have been excellent.

Sheer blatant opportunism like this is disquieting. In which case buyers should refrain if they can from buying as a demonstration of willingly being held to ransom.

A few are priced above £18 and even £20, but most are quite a bit less than that. They still have some titles - including some steelbooks - at £11.99.

Umm, what are you trying to prove with this? MoC steels are normally priced around £18-20. (They ARE coming from Eureka after all.) Though they have been on sale at one point or another, just like half of these are at the moment.

The later two are OOP and an HMV exclusive, respectively. Not Amazon's fault.

Amazon can charge whatever they want but if the market deem it too much they just won't pay. If that happened either Amazon would have to lower there prices or piracy would again become commonplace.

I have noticed myself prices slowly creeping up and now they no longer have to price match Play. It's a sad time indeed....

I got an email from nectar saying you will no longer be able to gain nectar points in their estore at amazon so it seems one company is stopping working with the other - it's just not clear if it is amazon or nectar who pulled the plug.

Interesting! I just redeemed a £10 a-voucher for Amazon from Nectar!
What a great pity!

Just a heads up.

Valued Opinions are a survey website.

You do the surveys, they give you credit which you can redeem for Amazon vouchers.

The amount of credit is determined by the length of the survey and the company behind it.

I've got over £100 off them so far

Never knew Amazon accepted Nectar points. Oh well, I have little to none, so doesn't really matter to me.
