From what I've skimmed so far, this sounds amazing! I really cannot wait to see this now. I'm relly happy to hear that they are trying to improve the 3d over phantom menace( i need to see it in 3d a second time, but the 3d felt very subtle for that movie, though whether that is good or bad to me, still has yet to be decided)

I can also vouch for the 3d on ep ii, saw the footage at cele iv in orlando. Way better than ep i. I think it has alot to do with them being able to go back to the digital negative vs a film. Least thats how they explained it in the presentation. I think everyone will be very happy with ep ii and iii in 3d. But unfortunatly I can see a let down coming with the classics as everyone is likly waiting for.

At the end of the day, it's not like Lucas doesn't have the money to do it right, and as a director I'd want the conversion to look it's best. I mean you can tell Cameron has pride in the job he does so hope Lucas has the same, there's no technical limitations if you want to throw enough time and money at it.

Glad to hear they're cranking up the 3D for 2 and 3 now that they have more assets to work with. Even so, they need to follow Cameron's lead on Titanic 3D. For all the grief many give the new Star Wars trilogy of I, II and III, the new movies offer the best light sabers duels around from Darth Maul vs Obi Wan, Obi Wan and Anakin vs Count Dooku, and Obi Wan versus Darth Vader Anakin. Also great to see Yoda and Darth Sidious back in action. Just wish we got a lot more Darth Vader and less Anakin. Last edited by Zivouhr; 09-16-2012 at 01:26 AM. |

I bought the Star Wars Blu-rays when they came out, and I haven't even made my way through those. The bad new movies and all the changes to the old movies made the film series pretty unwatchable to me.
I have zero interest in 3D versions of Star Wars. I'll only buy back into the series if they release the original trilogy without all the edits. |

I sort of suspected we'd get Episode 2 so that George could "do-over" Episode 1--
SW:E1 was greenlit back during the honeymoon when every studio and director read the headline that the technology had been invented....Okay, it's the morning after, now we know that conversions aren't so great after all, and they don't just happen by pressing a button. ![]() (At least I was right in holding off my purchase of the entire Prequel trilogy until the 3D's came out. I just had to hold out faith that there would be more than one. ![]() |

You'd think George Lucas would have enough money to do a decent 3D conversion wouldn't you? Or is it all being done "in house" (i.e. at ILM) and they are still getting to grips with their 3D conversion tools?
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the recent trilogy. They had overblown special effects, too much political meandering and some awfully wooden acting...Hayden Christensen being the worst offender. I just didn't enjoy his performances at all and he often delivered his lines with no conviction or the wrong intonation.... You "WILL" try!! Of course, the original trilogy are all classics but they were done at a time when the Star Wars movies seemed to get the balance right between, storyline, character development, dialogue and special effects. It also helps if all of your cast have screen presence and a chemistry between them, which in the original trilogy they did...in bundles. Gae Last edited by Gae; 08-26-2012 at 09:33 AM. |

Here's an old interview with John Knoll about the Star Wars Ep. I conversion.
http://media.fxguide.com/fxguidetv/fxguidetv-ep136.mp4 He seems very knowledgeable and experienced when it comes to optimizing 3D. It sounds like he got the exact look that he wanted in Ep. I, and George Lucas approved. However, my guess is that they were so worried about not creating eye strain and hyperstereo that they forgot to make the 3D engaging and worthwhile for audiences that have to pay extra and wear glasses at the theater to see it. The reported use of stronger depth and higher convergence is likely a reaction to the general public's distaste for Ep. I's ultra-conservative 3D. Hopefully, they have learned more about what makes a good 3D experience for audiences. I'm glad that they started with the worst Star Wars film first. |

I think Lucas, when he approved the weak 3D for Episode I 3D, forgot what Avatar 3D looked like, which was one of his inspiration for converting the films. |
