Twixt 3D Blu-ray (only 2 scenes are presented in 3D)

I thought i found this title mentioned somewhere on the forum. I am not able to find it again. Can someone point me the way? Thanks.

Twixt has been discussed in the last bought or watched thread and the 3D horror films thread, among others. If you use the search function you won't have any difficulty finding various mentions of it. Just be sure to avoid the Brazilian version with the Virginia title - your player will recognise it as 3D but the two scenes that are supposed to be in 3D actually play out in 2D, no different from the rest of the film.

I haven't watched the movie, but did check out one of the 3D scenes and the 3D is competent.

The 3D disc I received seems like the genuinely authored disc that activates accurate multiple display 3D processing triggers, but the MVC encode on this disc is the same eye-view on both L & R streams, which resolves as 2D while in 3D mode..

This is getting a new cut and title (B'Twixt Now and Sunrise) but I expect that the two 3D scenes will be flattened out...

Pfffft.

I've got the original 3D disc. It's ok... certainly handsomely photographed.

It has its critics (just like Godfather 3 does... ).

It's certainly got an element of Coppola unburdening himself, sort of like a filmic therapy session, which makes me feel some of the harsher criticism is a tad unkind. I mean, the guy lost a son to a horrible accident; give him a break....

I was pleasantly surprised with this film and the two 3d scenes were great

Watched the original version of Twixt 3D last night. I found the script underdeveloped and lacking a thoughtful ending. Not much of the comedy landed for me
[Show spoiler](pouring one out for Edgar Allen Poe?)
, but the protagonist’s grief over his lost daughter did pull my emotional strings, even more when I found out Coppola lost a son in a similar manner. The story of the writer’s creative struggle didn’t work at all. It’s odd seeing this version of Val Kilmer on screen, and I can’t help but prefer his younger, healthier self. I suppose it’s fitting that he carries this film. Bruce Dern really hams up his sheriff character, which is mildly entertaining but a little tonally detrimental. Elle Fanning’s performance was perfect, and I enjoyed the intermittent surreal vampire ghost story the most.

It takes a long hour to get to the first brief 3D sequence. The depth looks fantastic, and the bell tower ladders make an interesting space for staging stereo. The second 3D sequence comes another 15min later and is by far the best scene,
[Show spoiler]literally exploding the heart of the film
for 3D pop-out delight. The 3D looks wonderful. The only problem is that there is so little of it, only 6 minutes in an hour and a half sitting. The rest of the film could have been majorly enhanced by stereo if they had the desire and budget to shoot the whole thing properly. But I guess Coppola only likes 3D in short segments?

Although I respect how personal this project must have been for Coppola, the whole production is underwhelming and undercooked. There are some great moments but many more that feel like a rough draft. I’m not surprised that he recut the film to focus his message(s). Apparently, the B’Twixt version takes the 3D highlight sequence, trims it, flattens it, and reinserts it in the middle of the film, eliminating the sole reason I bought the disc and surrendered my time.

Movie - 2/5
3D - 3/5
