Question Question about WB?

so batman begins. and the matrix. we're waiting for them. speculation has run its course and no answer has been sufficient as to why we don't have them on blu yet. bd+ this bd-j that. is it possible that they're receiving financial compensation from HD-DVD for holding out? but thats not the question. the question is this: is there a single WB BD that isn't out on HD DVD? i'm curious.

Idk about that, but Troy was a movie that was HD DVD only until they "re-released" it as a director's cut on bith formats. So mayb we will get Batman or Matrix sooner than later...

the release of these titles on BD would really swing the sales our way

hopefully they will launch late Q4 so that we can help influence warner to going blu

I think it's more likely that they just want to port over what they already encoded for HDDVD & without Pip support on BD, that probably made them wait rather than authoring a new version for BD. Just a stray thought, no grounds for that really.

I remember when they first anounced Troy: directors cut on BD they mentioned that HDDVD only had the theatrical release...Idono if that changed & they ended up releasing the directors cut on hddvd too. But from what I initially heard, the directors cut of troy was BD only, while the hddvd camp is still stuck with the theatrical release that came out so long ago.

But again, I did not research this before posting so I could be way off here.

Sure they'd be nice to have but in the grand scheme of things, it's been proven time and again that catalog titles don't sell well... Matrix sold what, 25k copies TOTAL on HD? A large part of that was likely having it as a box set though, lots of people hated 2 and 3...

I'm amazed that Warner doesn't realize the higher sales they'd realize if they ACTUALLY DID a separate Blu-ray encoding that was not constrained by the limitations of HD-DVD. I buy some Warners videos in spite of the current "porting" approach, but there are more Warners videos that I would buy but don't because of the "constrained" porting of the HD-DVD encoding.

I agree with that whole heartedly.

unfortunately this would not be "cost effective"... why have two different versions when one version will work on both? to you it would make sense... to warner, it's just extra cash they could save. you will always work with the lowest common denominator when it comes to this.

My guess is it's a contract to have particular titles first for them. They couldn't buy exclusivity out right but obviously they could buy certain titles. This is a guess based on the fact I was told by my rep months ago the Matrix was coming for BluRay and yet...nothing.
