Default Cop (James Woods) coming from Kino

Cop Blu-ray

Just announced on their fb page

Quote:
Kino Lorber will add to their Blu-ray catalog director James B. Harris' action thriller Cop (1988), starring James Woods, Lesley Ann Warren, Charles Durning, Charles Haid, and Raymond J. Barry. The release is expected to arrive on the market later this year.

Synopsis: Academy Award-nominee James Woods (Best Actor, Salvador, 1986; Best Supporting Actor, Ghosts of Mississippi, 1996) stars as a brilliant maverick police detective in this exciting, violent thriller with a hint of noir.

Police detective Lloyd Hopkins (Woods) doesn't like to be told what to do, or what not to do. Stripped of his badge and gun, he pursues a killer no one thinks exists. By uncovering a secret hidden in a high-school yearbook, he will piece together seemingly unrelated clues to expose crimes dating back two decades.

Awesome! Underrated thriller with a terrific performance by James Woods. Charles Durning is also great as Woods sympathetic buddy Dutch. Not well received at the time of it's release either critically or at the box office but I thought it was pretty great. Love the last few moments of the film too. It would be neat to get a commentary or some sort of special features via this new Blu-ray.

Wow, I thought I'd be stuck with the dvd forever with this one - great news. Only watched it once but really enjoyed it - definitely one of my favourite Woods films. That's my 'not on blu/iTunes HD' list down to 7 now...

Good news. The film is based on one of James Ellroy's better (early) books. My only reservation about the film is that it simply lopped off the ending portion of the book.

Watched my copy last night and I feel the PQ is better than a 3, I'd lean more with a 4. Decent flick that still holds up, I enjoyed it very much!

Just watched this film, the transfer I thought was really good. Love that it doesn't seem to be tampered with and color messed up etc.

But I went into the film blindly which is a good thing. Just watched the Trailer WOW talk about spoiling the whole movie to a point!

Even though the film isn't great it is still solid and I love James, Charles and Lesley Ann Warren a lot. It was great 80's escapist entertainment.

I watched both movies a few weeks apart but this would make for a great double feature with the Charles Bronson flick 10 To Midnight!

PQ is definitely better than a 3 and the movie is much better than the 2 it received.

Finally watched an HD rip of this yesterday and immediately, and luckily, was able to snag the OOP Kino disc for $25 shipped. Well worth it, even though the disc is lacking in substantial extras.

I have rewatched that ending about a dozen times. Powerful stuff. I agree it would make a great double bill with "10 to Midnight".

As good as the film is, I think the book's ending is even more powerful.

Re-watched this recently for the first time in years. It's not without some issues, including the way a couple of the key characters are written. But it works on a number of other levels. The ending is great too. And it's driven by another excellent performance from James Woods. A reminder of how from the mid 80s to mid 90s he was about as good as any actor working and could just carry films.

IMO the German release looks a tiny bit more vibrant and has more natural grain.
