Well that's a start. Unfortunately for me I didn't care for this movie. Glad to hear some nice comments about the BD though.

I really enjoyed the Punisher...

Much better than the Dolf Lungren version.

Im still not impressed. so they cut out the hd audio and used more room for video. Big deal. I can get good video over dishnetwork. Where is the hd audio? Im not touching blu-ray until they start using 50G dl disks or better compression for video AND audio.

uncompressed audio is great, I think complaining about the fact that they used Dolby Digital Surround EX and DTS-ES 6.1 to make room for better PQ IMO is kind of rough, I commend Lionsgate for doin so. I am happy with DTS-ES and it should sound better on a BR player output via 6channel analong letting the player do the conversion than a standard DVD player over opti/coax. Yes, i'd like to see uncompressed audio too, but not at the expense of PQ.

So, Sony...if your listening...we want 50gb DL and VC-1 like yesterday & ALL DISCS TO HAVE PCM 5.1 LOSSLESS as standard!
we are spoiled and it hasn't even been a month yet. We want our cake and eat it too dammit!!!

Personally, I doubt you'll ever see Sony ship disks encoded with VC-1. It's a Microsoft developed technology. I'd guess Sony is bothered enough that they will have to include VC-1 capability in every one of its players (include, I would suppose, the PS3). I would expect Sony to use either MPEG2 or MPEG 4 Part 10 (aka AVC or H.264).

As an aside -- just think, Microsoft is very likely getting royalties on every PS3 sold. Anyone able to actually confirm or deny this?
