Unhappy Blu-Ray "Extras" is there a real value here?

I see complaints everywhere, (including review) about the Blu-Ray extras sucking. I don't know about you guys but unless I really love a movie beyond the surface, I really don't care about extras? In rare instances I do, Stand by me 2 Disc DVD was brilliant it gave insight into what King and Reiner were thinking about the book to movie adapatation etc..., The Good The Bad the Ugly is another example, but most companies its seems are taking the high road with extras and leaving them out or maybe palnning a re-market of the same movie with more extras. Do you guys think we will start seeing the same BLURAYS again but with more features...DVD did this and it kinda pissed me off because I had to spend that much more money and in some cases it was worth it and in others I was like WTF. Opinions??

Extras are a waste of space I dont care about behind the scene crap or comentary. If I want to hear people talk about a movie while I am watching it I will go to the theater and the same pople who complain about extras will also ***** about the BD costing more.

i don't care about a jam packed blu ray with extras but i like some of them. Like no country for old men was perfect for me. Making of the movie and a few talk about the directors etc. As long as it's good extras and they don't take away from the quality of the movie, i like them !

It's a very small but vocal minority that *****es about extras repeatedly. I've noticed a lot of them are/were former HD DVD supporters for what it's worth. Most extras are so inane and not worth watching even once.

I love a good text commentary, that way I can watch the movie and not listen to somebody droning on ruining the movie. POTC: CoBP has it where you can play it on top of the movie. I also like to see deleted scenes, because those will sometimes flesh the movie out a bit more, of course I would rather see them put back in the movie on an extended edition. Even then though, there are still scenes that didn't get added back in. Let me see them! Blooper reels can sometimes be funny, sometimes a waste of time. It's also enjoyable seeing artwork designs on fantasy movies, see different concepts they were thinking of that got thrown to the side.

On the flip side, voice commentaries, PiP, online stuff. Feel free to cut all that out to save space for the movie. I've listened to a few voice commentaries on those days I'm having problems falling asleep, it's always worked wonders.

The only "extras" I care about is unrated/uncut/extended versions of films.

AS of 3/18/08 at 1045 PM 30 votes are in and with an average of 2.6 out of 5...it seems companies should go a little extra and give us a bit more on the "quality" side. But please no more LOTR 115 disc collection, just stop it already - I don't want to see FRODO taking a dump in the forest...

To tell the truth, they do mostly suck. There is rarely any interactivity or anything different from what dvd offers. That is one thing hd-dvd was better at offering.

extras can be fun, but I prefer top PQ and SQ first and when there is enough space, some extras.

I have a very measured and mixed feeling about extra's, so I said 3. Yes, I do feel a little cheated without a few extra's. But if the extra's are taking up valuable space away from the movie quality and sound, then no.

If the extra's aren't HD, then why bother? I have an HDTV and blu-ray to enjoy HD content, so give me HD content!

I'm a weird one. I don't mind a disc with no extras. But I'm an absolute ***** for multiple disc sets even if It's the same transfer as the single disc set even if I never watch the extras. My collectors instinct . But I'm not peeved when we get hit with Fox barebones, as long as there's not a "better" version out. I do object to Fox's pricing though

For the most part, I don't really care about extras. Only on certain films does it matter to me. For instance, when "The Matrix" came out, I enjoyed learning how they did some of the effects (dodging bullets....too cool). BUT, there are people who find nuances in films that do nothing for me. So, it wouldn't be fair for me to say "NO EXTRAS" when others really like them. But for me, it doesn't matter.

The only extra's i ever bother with are commentary if its a movie that i want more information from. The games, 'behind the scenes' stuff which are typically 80% clips from the movie, and other crap is useless imo.

Depends on what the extras are, and what film it is.

Multiple Cuts (rated/unrated, theatrical/director's): 5
Teaser/Theatrical Trailers: 5
Music Video: 5
Deleted Scenes: 4
Gag Reel: 3
Audio Commentary/PiP: 1

If a documentary can be made to the quality of the documentaries/featurettes on the LOTR films and "Star Wars: Episode I", or of historical significance ("300" BD, or "From Hell" DVD) then I give that a five, but if the documentary/featurette is akin to a puff piece promo, I give it a 2.
