Default All 700+ episodes of Power Rangers possibly coming to Blu-ray! (Summer 2012)

Saban had recently announced that all 700+ episodes of Power Rangers will be released in Blu-Ray, DVD and other digital rights via an exclusive multi-year deal with Shout! Factory!

Apart from the 700 episodes of Power Rangers that ran between 1993 and 2009, 92 episodes of “VR Troopers” (1994-96), 26 episodes of “Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation” (1997-98) and 88 episodes of “Big Bad Beetleborgs” (1996-98) will also be included in the deal. As of writing, full feature films are not included in the deal.

Shout! Factory founding partners Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos commented in a joint statement,

“We look forward to bringing these highly entertaining series with great packaging and extras to fans and on family home entertainment shelves.”

Shout! Factory will be releasing Saban's Power Rangers in Blu-Ray and DVD starting this summer 2012.

First 3 seasons only. And strictly for nostalgia. MMPR was far from a good show. I can't imagine a BR transfer would improve for something so old and cheap.

Unless Shout Factory has changed something, the press release states that they will be released on DVD with the option of blu-ray. It says nothing definite about a blu-ray release and frankly, I think one would be pointless. The only way this works is something I've said for years which is to just simply take the standard def DVD episodes and put them on a blu-ray for convenience purposes. Think about it, the first season is 60 episodes so you would be looking at around 8-10 DL DVD's or you would be looking at 2 50GB blu's. Assuming there wasn't a massive price difference, would you rather save 5 bucks and buy that huge load of DVD's, likely released over 2 parts so you'd wind up paying more in the long run? Or would you rather buy a single release 2 disc blu-ray set with all 60 episodes already there?

I feel this is the only option for shows that were recorded to video tape because you're never gonna get a presentable HD presentation that doesn't look like a glorified up-scaling so why fight it?

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I just cannot see the market for this from a business perspective. Digital downloads and DVDs for nostalgia factor? Sure, but Blu-rays... IDK.

I wonder if Shout plans on releasing complete seasons sets or best-ofs and if they will be commercially available in stores or just MOD.

Beat me to it! I will definitely buy all of them, but I don't think Shout is committed enough for a full restoration, a la TNG. I certainly hope the BDs are good, but if they screw up I'm sure someone will do a full restoration sometime. I also wonder what they'll do for sound, hopefully an HD surround track and a PCM Stereo mix. Plus this was not shot on videotape, it was shot on 16mm film, though it was likely edited on tape. As long as they don't pull the crap they did with Medabots, releasing the first season and then giving up in the rest of the season forcing me to hunt down the old single disc releases.

EDIT: And if Saban owns the rights to Galidor, Nascar Racers, and Mon Colle Knights I want them as well. And Well Go, how about you follow the leader and get Digimon on Blu-ray?

All I want are the first 3 seasons. I've been debating for a while whether or not to import the German sets, so this is great news. I'm excited that we are actually getting them and on blu ray to boot My world revolved around Power Rangers when I was younger so it will be awesome to have them in my collection. I'm just wondering how well those special effects will hold up.

My inner five year old wants this, would watch them again just to laugh at how corny they are.

I was gonna get the UK DVD sets too but I'm glad I held off.

Cheese/corny is always good if done right and PR did it right. Once the series goes into season 5 it gets darker and more dramatic which shocked many fans.

Shout Factory has been a really awesome company lately. Like they have been ressurrecting Nickelodeon shows from like the 1990s into season boxsets that were never properly released onto DVD before.

But the older Power Rangers episodes and VR Troopers on Blu-ray would really make me happy.

You mean how they killed off the one power ranger in the show? I think it was Lost Galaxy.

Out of the later series I enjoyed Dino Thunder, SPD and Ninja Storm. In no real order.

I wouldn't say killed off. But the actress left to get cancer treatment and in her place they brought in the villian from the previous season, it was bloody brilliant.

I'm not big on the Disney era season, I felt they shat on what the Ranger legacy was. But I did like RPM and Jungle Fury.

I was a huge fan of this show when I was younger, but then I saw an episode recently and was floored by how bad it looked. What the hell kool-aid was I on to think this was cool?

According to tvshowsondvd.com the movies have not been licensed to Shout! They remain with 20th Century Fox.

I hope they do eventually release those on Blu. Both films sucked but still.

I dropped off when I was 12 or so (Turbo I think it was?).

Depending on price, I may buy just for laughs.

I've never watched this. What makes the first 3 seasons better than the rest?
