Thumbs up Gods And Generals Directors Cut?

Picked up my copy of Gods And Generals, on BD, last Sunday and watched it tonight. I noticed that some of the scenes had different angle shoots, than my SD DVD copy. There was some minor editing but also some additions. This movie has great sound quality and has a good transfer. A must buy, if your in to Civil War movies.

I have seen this one two or three times since it has come out. It's a shame that people like Hi-Def Digest have given it bad scores. Glad to see someone else actually enjoyed watching it...hope Gettysburg comes out soon.

Stephen Lang is great, as Stonewall Jackson. Robert Duvall is also quite good. The movie does suffer a bit, from some of the tacky acting in small parts, but overall, it's a very good movie. I remember buying my DVD copy of Gods And Generals, of all places, Fredricksburg, Virginia, the day it was released. I had a hard time getting a copy, due to the film being made in the town. Makes that DVD copy, kind of special. I don't regret getting the Blu Ray copy recently.

Agreed, I do like different aspects of the acting, but sometimes it can be over-the-top. I also felt the film suffered a bit on the actual shooting of the film, not the transfer...you can see some softness in different places, but I don't feel it's Blu's fault it's like that.

Is the Blu version selling in your town also?

He stated that he bought his SD DVD version from Fredricksburg, not his BD copy. As he stated in his opening statement, he bought the BD version Sunday...so, I figure he bought it where he lives.

It's a great film. I'm not bothered by the pace at all. Some stories require more time to be told properly, and I have the patience to see it through. Loved it in the theaters and again on Blu-ray. It was a worthy prequel to Gettysburg and had most of the cast, including many reprising their same historic character roles.

Now, I can't wait for Gettysburg and Glory to be released on Blu-ray.

Thumbs up

I recently read a book called "Sea Of Grey", about the Confederate raider Shanendoah. It would make a great civil war movie, is someone would film the story.

On God's And Generals, there was supposed to be a third movie, in the triology, called "The Last Full Measure". The book has been out for about three years now. Has anyone heard if this movie is going to be made anytime soon? It would make a fitting ending to these other two great movies, G & G and Gettysburg.
