Default Gods and Generals - opinion?

I was thinking about buying Gods and Generals next week....alot of negative reviews for this film. I've never seen it. I do like war movies as well as historical war stuff. Is this as bad as some of the critics make it out to be?

Thanks in advance.

i adore this movie, as anything on a civil war. although Gettysburg is better, if u love it, u will love this also. some "between-the-battles" scenes are quite boring and too religious, but battles are huge, spectacular, and the story is very very historically acurate...

one more thing: some critics are very angry since movie shows REAL and not simplified reasons for the War... people in US get very simplified education about it, very inacurate and biased... luckilly, u can find much better literature in the UK...

Once I read that the director was going for a kind of Iliad/Odyssey Greek epic poem set in American history, the style of the dialogue and some of the lengthier monologues made perfect sense. This was tough to sit through in the theater because it's a stylistic departure from Gettysburg, which was much more straightforward, but I grew to appreciate Gods and Generals on it's own once it hit DVD.

Still waiting for that five-hour cut.

I'm another huge Civil War student, and I found Gettysburg a terrific film. Jeff Daniels performance alone makes it a must-watch. Having said this, G&G is much slower paced, focusing on Stonewall Jackson as he moves from VMI instructor to one of the true military geniuses of the war. The battle scenes are great, but, overall, the movie left me much less satisfied than Gettysburg. I own it (SD), but unlike Gettysburg, I very seldom watch it.

and still one more thing : very very nice soundtrack...
but again, not as great as Gettysburg's... no wonder, since the latter has the best soundtrack of all times... man, i can listen that music every single day...

At least Gods and Generals is somewhat accurate/realistic, and wasn't absurd

It's just overlong, it's the only new movie in recent memory released with an intermission. Gettysburg really got everything, including the pacing just right. Gods and Generals simply didn't.

I haven't seen this movie, but I'm buying it.

One negative review said the speeches were long. I guess they should have just said, "We teh leetest. Go get ur killz."

If the movie ends up being a 3 out of 5 stars for me, I'd be happy.

The Patriot was a great movie!

Confused? Look above. Another poster said the Patriot was a good movie. I'm just agreeing.

Yes, I went to college and I know that they are different wars. In fact, they are different movies too.
