Default Size of the movie content in HD-DVD and Blu-ray

Do you guys know a site, which lists the size of some HD-dvd and Blu-ray movie discs.

Like for example 'the Last Samurai' is 28 Gig. I read this somewhere but lost the source.

Do you guys know where I can find a list of the movie sizes, at a website or something, that I can show as my source?

I need to proove something on another forum, with someone I am debating right now.

Thanks

I remember seeing a list as well. I did some searching but so far haven't found it. I'll keep looking. I should have bookmarked it as it was interesting to see that all or nearly all of the current HD DVDs took up less than 25GB.

Here we go: http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,126112,00.asp

None of the eight titles could fit on a 15GB single-layer HD DVD, and half came within a mere 5GB of maxing out a 30GB dual-layer disc--even though all relied on the latest, more efficient video codecs (VC-1 and MPEG-4 AVC). The movies were The Last Samurai (which topped out at 27.3GB), Mel Brooks's Blazing Saddles (25.4GB), The Phantom of the Opera (24.8GB), Jarhead (24.7GB), The Bourne Identity (22.7GB), Serenity (19.6GB), The Fugitive (18.2GB), and Doom (16.5GB).

I'd like to know what Training Day takes up. There really is little correlation between size of movie and quality. Serenity is one of the smaller films but the quality is constantly rated high. It all comes down to how easy a movie is to compress. This varies wildly as you can see.

I've read that CG scenes actually take up less space than pure film transfer. (I haven't seen serenity but I've heard it has alot of this)

Would probably explain why alot of animated movies like Finding Nemo for example are only about 3gb's when uploaded to the computer.

I'm curious about that title as well being that IMO it's the best looking HD DVD out there.

I think cg taking up less space makes a lot of sense if only because of the fact that it's easier to exercise control over. it wouldn't surprise me to learn that parts or layers of each frame (i.e. focal depths) are optimized for compression on an individual basis. i know at least one of pixar's films, i believe it was "a bug's life," had its aspect ratio completely altered for its video release. they digitally altered the dimensions of everything so that everything from the 1.85:1 frame was visible in a 1.33:1 frame. and no, they didn't just squish it.

to quote one homer simpson, "what an age we live in."
