USA Are You The Only One in Your Household that Collects and Understands Blu-ray?

One thing I like about blu-ray is I am the only one in my household that understands what blu-rays are. My mom doesn't collect. Usually the response I get from her is " Why do you buy all these movies?" Well why do you have a ton of unread books, mom? Its a hobby. My sister lives on her own farther out. She is like. Lets bring you blu-rays over here so I can borrow them and watch them on my DVD Player. I tell her they won't work with DVD Players. Kinda a nice thing because I don't have to worry about my titles getting stolen becuase it won't work with there player or they don't understand the concept of blu-ray?

Anyone else have family members who are still inlitterate about the concept of blu-ray and high definition?

i'm the only one in my extended family that understands the plus side to blu-ray.

my sister and brother in law get them b/c they are the latest & greatest thing.....the don't really appreciate the quality the way i do.

Well my son is 7 and he knows all about Blu-ray. Even when we go to the video store he looks for Blu " because it looks better" . Not in my household, but my parents pay little attention to PQ and AQ. They have a Blu-ray player and HDTV, but VHS, DVD, Blu-ray is still the same to them.

YES I am going through the same thing, my mom is always like can I watch that movie? I just shake my head and she just says "Damn Blu rays!" She doesnt care at all about the PQ, and I have tried to show her the difference but she cant see it. It frustrates me to no end. I am about to buy her a blu ray player, but the only reason she wants one is so she can see the movies I own and that she has never been able to watch. NOT because its a superior format

I'm the only one that collects them. My brother watches some of my movies as well, so he knows, but he's not a movie buyer like I am. My dad has seen the difference while I have been watching my Blu-rays sometimes, but my parents don't have an HDTV or a Blu-ray player. My mother has no interest in HD.

My mom was annoyed at first. Now she kinda gets it. Thing is a lot of the shows she watches are only on DVD.

Yes, my wife thinks it's a waste of money since she is not a film enthusiast. My daughter is 16 months old so that's N/A.

I'm the only one in my family who collects, but then I'm also the only one who really builds a large collection of films. They all understand though how much of a step up in quality it is though. It took my mum some time to understand, but when she wanted to watch Ice Age 3 one night, she wanted to borrow the DVD copy in the package but I insisted she watched the Blu-ray instead. After that, she never questioned the format again.

I buy all of the Blu-ray movies and my 10yr old daughter really enjoys watching them and understands the difference. Wife is ambivalent about the whole thing but plays along.

She will even start taping sports like football games, etc but had to school her about picking the HD FEED INSTEAD OF THE SD FEED!! Got home late from work and she said she taped MNF on DTV, had some food, dip and brews ready but thought something was wrong with my set and noticed she recorded the SD feed. Had no choice but to watch/skip forward until I could switch to the HD feed. Now she knows

My sister is a casual fan - she buys the odd Blu but is still content with DVDs (when she moves in with her fiance in a few weeks he'll have his PS3 so I can imagine the collecting may step up a notch).

My brother has 1 Blu (Final Fantasy: Advent Children) but he isn't into films anyway.

Parents are both clueless on the concept

I'm the only one in the household who buys BDs. Everyone else is content with DVDs but then again, they don't really collect movies.

I am the only one in my house who makes the purchase but my wife has her own little collection of films. When a title comes out she wants she gets it or she will ask me to check on some of her fav's to see if and when they will be coming out.

Yes. My mom and dad don't care and they say they don't see the difference but they don't complain or anything. But my brother was watching Saving Private Ryan and he complained that it didn't look like HD, and then I told him that it was HD, but the grain was supposed to be there. And then we had like a one-hour conversation and he still did not get it.

My mom and oldest daughter (10) both understand it. However I'm the only one that actually buys them. My mom trusts me with my movies that I like and she knows most of them she'l enjoy as well. there are few rare occasions wher there is a movie we both like and she'll tell me I'm goign to get in on Blu when it comes out.

My daughter well she's all over Blu-ray liek white on rice. She's constintaly asking me when certain movies are coming out on Blu. Then asks me if we can get it. I have my collection and I havet he kdis Movies in the same place but seperated.
