before i commit and buy a PS3 40gig australian version are games compatiable world wide if i buy games from usa will they work here in aus

Well, I just checked several PS3 games, looking for region encodes. I didn't see any, so maybe they're region free? That would be nice.

But the games are on BD. However, the games are region free. There might be some other issues to consider though.

Yes, all Blu-ray Disc PS3 games are region free. I've imported Ninja Gaiden Sigma from Japan and a couple of Canadian games to play on my PAL (UK) region PS3. If you're playing in high definition resolutions, 720p or above there are no region compatibility issues.

As far as the game discs are concerned, they are region free.
However if your wanting to play online the rules change a bit. For example, if you want to play Motorstorm online you will only be able to play online with people from the same region as your disc. Upon booting up a UK Motorstorm, it asks what region you are from and it does not specify USA as one of the options. In the USA version I believe there is no option at all and defaults to USA. So if you do go for a foreign disc, make sure your not likely to go online with it. |
