Default Question for ps3 games

An interesting poll to think about. The reason that I bring it up is because no games at this point are in the 25 GB range. Resistance is at 19GB or something. I'm not saying that games won't ever be at 50GB at Phil said that games would reach 50GB by next year, meaning this year and every game up until december of last year would reach the 25 GB range. I think that the ps3 will have some great games in the years to come.

It would take some type of crazy game to need more then 25 gig. If we see it, it will be later in the life cycle of the ps3.

I was thinking of Grand Theft Auto or maybe Burnout 5.

kojima (medal gear guy) already said that blu ray may not have the capacity to handle mgs4. Sounds to me that they may be using a 50GB disc for that game. It may not come out this year though.

Ill try and find a link.

I don't think whether or not games hit 50GB hinges on developers ability to understand/develop games for the PS3, I think it will depend on the scope of the game. A 50GB game is like 10 single layer DVDs. I can't think of any PC games that use that many discs.

In terms of PC games, some come in disc sets of 4 at the most. I bet Grand Theft Auto would be a game that would use 50 GB because if enough new things are added, the extra room would be required. It could also be of high resolution textures and other things in games. Burnout 5 would be another example of a 50 GB game. We'll know for sure what game will use a 50 GB disc once the time comes.

FFXIII will be the biggest game in size and fanbase for the PS3, so when that comes out it may use a BD50, they are talking about pre-rendered 1080p FMV, and running the game at 1080p60. I would look for that in mid-2008 as a first title to use 50GB discs.

Exactly, FFXIII is such an example. I'm sure that we'll see other games reach the 50 GB size in the years to come.

GTA IV will, since GTA SA was already pushing the limits of DVD9.

What is DVD 9? Standard DVD? I haven't heard a thing about Grand Theft Auto 4 except that supposely 150 developers will be working on it. I think that Rockstar will make the game since they created the series in the first place. I do wonder if Grand Theft Auto will be out on the XBox 360 because the ps3 is the only console that can hold a 50GB disc so if you make a next gen grand theft auto game, you have two options: 1) Put Grand Theft Auto out only on the ps3 since blu-ray is not on the XBox 360 or 2) maybe make Grand Theft Auto on the ps3 and then somehow make a stripped down versions and put that on the XBox 360. I did read that Grand Theft Auto 4 would be out on the XBox 360 first so maybe the game will be out on both consoles.

A DVD9 is dual layer DVD, and as for GTA4, it is more likely that they will use the lowest common denominator and just use the same game for both consoles severely handicapping the PS3 experience. Rockstar are a good development house, and hopefully they will prove me wrong and will optimise for each console. I would personally love to see the X360 fanboys cry if GTA4 has a bigger world on the PS3 because Blu-ray allows for more data.

The strong point that I'm making is that Grand Theft Auto has always been out for the ps2, pc and xbox and now that we have the ps3, xbox 360 and the pc, I don't see any reason why the game shouldn't be out on all three machines. In terms of parts, the ps3 and xbox 360 have very similar parts and if you take out the blu-ray on the ps3, both consoles are the same. I think that Grand Theft Auto should be out for the ps3 and xbox 360, but at the same time, both versions should be fully optimized for each console and I'm just wondering how that would be done.

Well I could see filling up the disc with various audio for games like Madden and NBA 2K7. It does not take long in those games for the announcers to repeat the same phrases over and over again. It would be nice if somehow they would not repeat so much. I guess the audio would not take up too much space, but more variety would be nice.

I thought it was coming out before summer. That's why I voted for this year. I could also see FFXIII being above 25GB.

If either Metal Gear, or FFXIII come out this year, it wont be until the end of the year. Im thinking it wont be until next year.
