Default The Omega Man

I liked this movie for the time it was filmed. A pretty cool movie in its day. I actually ran across that the movie is based on a book called I Am Legend, so now I'm really anxious to see the movie I Am Legend starring Wil Smith. I'm curious to see the diffences in each movie. I just may have to get The Omega Man on blu-ray now... Anyone else going to pick this one up?

"The Omega Sector The Last Line Of Defense!" Anyone know what movie that is from?

This is one I have not seen. what's it about?

"The Omega Sector....The last line of Defense"; Wasn't that the secret agency depicted in True Lies that Arnold Sw. and Tom Arnold worked for?

I Am Legend is an old Sc-Fi story. Ray Bradbury quite possibly. Omega Man is based on that book. A scientist survives a man-made plague and thinks he's the last guy on earth. In some ways he is but within the city where he has his fortress, once dark comes, the crazy people come out - those who haven't yet died from the plague but are definately headed that way. Albino looks, black-hooded cloaks... a cult of weirdos bent on killing the scientist for the transgression of surviving. He ends up finding a few others in the outskirts who seem fine like him but actually have the very early stages of the disease. Not a happy ending but for the 70's... topical and pretty good overall.

The got the name "I am Legend" from the book, which was great by the way. Omega Man is quite different from the book and I am thinking the new movie will be quite different also. I liked Omega Man before I read the book, but don't think I would have liked the movie if I was expecting the book. That is probably why I don't think I will like the Will Smith version. I really liked the Vincent Price version, "The Last Man on Earth", which is more faithful to the book than Omega Man.

Yes you are correct... The Omega Sector was a reference to Charlton Heston being The Omega Man.... It's just like Arnie wearing the Lets Party logo on his jacket in Erasure making reference to Commando, Come on Bennett, Let's Party...

I read "I am Legend" and was extremely disappointed. I read "Hell House" by the same author, Richard Matheson, and it was the best horror story I've ever read. "I am legend" was really short, so much so, that over 1/2 of the book is short stories that weren't mentioned on the book cover. Almost the entire story is set up, and there is only one real show down between the main character and the vampires and it is over very quickly.
The movie should be different from the book as it would make for a very short movie with almost no action.

I Just saw on The Digital Bits that MGM is releasing The Last Man on Earth on DVD soon. Hope it is better than the budget $5 DVD I bought.

Wasn't there a Legend of Hell House movie or something like that? I remember it being awful. I saw Omega Man befoe I read I Am Legend and loved the book, actually a novela, but then didn't really like the Omega Man movie any more after I was done reading the book.

Yes, there was a poorly done movie based very loosely on the book "Hell House."
The explanation of how the infection spread in the story "I am Legend" was the best of any vampire movie or story I know of but other than that, I felt like nothing happened.

Last man on Earth: Great Movie with these virus infected vampire/zombies running around at night and Vincent Price is as vampire killer and burner of "dead" bodies. "Morgan!" "Come out Morgan!" Hope the new movie coming out is closer to this version than chuck's Omega man sequeal.

Never seen the omega man. I have seen trailers for I Am Legend and honestly, the movie looks good - however Will Smith - is a terrible actor. I can't take him seriously and I am thinking a lot of people in the industry are the same way. Hence why most all of his movies are comedic.

His last movie kinda flopped. I'm just not a Smith fan. I did like and will be buying iRobot and MAYBE ID4, have not decided on that one yet.

I watched The Omega Man again a few weeks ago on DVD and still thoroughly enjoyed it. It has certainly dated a bit and has clearly got a hip & funky 70's feel to it, but it sure is a lot of fun.

Some films date real bad and you can end up wondering what you ever liked about them in the first place, but this film aint one of them.

aww cmon you gotta give will some credit man,he has come a long way from his usual goofy attitude with the tv show to his most recent movie.pursuit of happyness was good and he did a good job with that

as for the omega man i remember watching that when i was a kid and scared the shit out of me thinking if it does happen

The Last Man on Earth and Omega Man were pretty scary, and mostly 'enjoyable', films for their time.

I can only hope that the 'ghouls' in I am Legend will be a lot more convincing then the ridiculous ones in Omega Man.
