USA Benji coming to blu on Mar 6 2012

Benji Blu-ray

Don't laugh, I grew up watching this film as kid.

Joe Camp's Benji is getting it's blu debut on March 6 2012 from Gaiam Home Video (I believe they used to be Goodtimes), all DVD version to date have been 1.33 Fullframe, hopefully the blu will have a widecreen transfer, and maybe some extras.

Another Joe Camp fave of mine was The Double McGuffin, I have that one one Goodtimes DVD

My God. I'm actually seriously considering getting this. Haven't seen it in decades but it affected me strongly as a child. I used to play the heck out of the record book back in the '70s...I shudder to think of how many people born in the '80s and '90s just read that last sentence and don't have the foggiest clue what I'm talking about. Eh, let's be honest...if they were born in the '80s or '90s, they're probably not checking this thread at all...

On a related note, I was thinking a few days ago that if it wasn't for the vitamins and Fruity Pebbles, my kids would have no idea who The Flinstones are.

As a child of the 80s, I'll pick up Benji.

Wow. First Baby: The Secret Of The Lost Legend and now Benji!?

Nice to see more and more of those underrated classic family films from the 80's get released on Blu-ray.

you're off a decade both the original film and it's sequel were 70's movies

Benji (1974)
For the Love of Benji (1977)

rumor has it the film is getting an update as a 2013 film.

Saw both Benji movies of the 70's in theaters (then again who from that time did not see them in theaters )

I can't remember the last time I saw either one of them but it as to be at least 25 years if not 30 years, in short, a heck of a long time ago

wow, I admit I have a few Goodtimes dvds, and they actually have some respectable public domain releases. But I certainly would be pretty concerned about the overall quality pqwise of the bd.
guess we'll find out in March.

I wonder if this is just to revive the brand.

What's next Shaggy D.A. and C.H.O.M.P.S.??

I saw the '77 Benji in the theatres. As cute as the brand was it didnt make it out of the 70's.

I wonder if they could actually drum up some extra features?

Thanks for making me feel old. Hehe. Yeah, I thought they were 70's. But someone else said 80's above and I was too lazy to check.

I got this today. I remember seeing it many times when I was a kid and thought my daughter would like it (she's almost 4). Picture quality it pretty poor, not much better than a DVD. The print is also far from perfect as you can see a few specks and scratches here and there. As was mentioned, it's fullframe. I honestly wasn't expecting much in terms of PQ so I can't say I'm surprised.

Absolutely hideous. THE, without a close peer, worst Blu-ray I've ever seen. It's not even really DVD quality but, in some ways, VHS quality (and I don't say that to be hyperbolic or overdramatic) with the worst "rainbow shimmer" aliasing I've ever seen since the days of videotape. Add in the fact that an "off the shelf" print was used, it's in the specious 1.33:1 format and has absolutely zero extras and this makes for the most condescending throw-away effort I've yet come across. Certainly not worth the $11.99 I paid for it, and not even the $5 price point some here have said they'd jump at. But, hey, it was for nostalgia's sake and for my young kids' enjoyment, so what the hey--it's "only" $11.99. Let's be honest, there's very little chance in Hades we'll ever see another hi-def release of this forgotten gem, so it is what it is...
