Default Will 20gb PS3 ever sell?

I don't know if most people know this or not but Gamestop still sells the 20gb PS3 on its website. With the new 40gb coming out, they had to reduce the 20gb price, but they only have it $20 less than the new one. Considering you get 20 more gigs and Spidey 3 for just 20 bucks, who the hell is gonna buy that 20gb? I really think EB needs to bite the bullet and lower that thing to like $300. Sure the profit margin will go to very little, but at least they'll sell some units. I honestly can't see anyone buying a 20 gig at that price.

You lose Spidey and 20GB, but you gain PS2 BC. If they've been in stock this long, I wonder if they'll ever sell them I really do wish the 40GB would have had ps2 bc.

well the 20 gb has FULL backwards compatability with ps1/2 games, moreso than even the 80gb system. So, someone who is more concerned about games and does not NEED wifi or card readers, will definitely buy it.

I would buy the 20gig version first as well. You cant later add BC to the 40gig, while you can add a larger HDD.

The 40 gig is for poeple that strictly do not care about BC.

I thought the 20 gig PS3 did not have the wireless internet connection. I would miss this for simple firmware upgrades.

Ah did not think about BC.....well in that case I could see the 20gb as a viable Gaming option and competent threat to the 360. Although if they want to compete in that regard, they should really drop the 20 gig to $349.99 IMO

I know others have said that the no BC is no big deal, but it sures seems like a bad idea to me. They're going to piss off a lot of people who buy it and assume it'll be BC. If not for this forum, I'd assume full BC on the system. Why wouldn't the average buyer expect BC after the first gen machines had it? I was thinking of buying the 40gb for my son for Xmas, but now I won't (and the 80 is too expensive). Guess I'll look into the 20gb while it's still around. Maybe wait to see if it drops in price.

Honestly,

The 20 gig is a fantastic bargain, it has the bc and devoid of the chrome. Really, I don't see a point of wi-fi if you are a student or living in a condo. Chances are you run a couple of feet of cable under the carpet and no problems.

At this point, all PS3 sku's are a great value. Seriously, the White 40gb is sick.

20GB is not much space. My 60Gb has at least 10GB reserved for PS2 dashboard. Leaving only 10GB for you to use, If you like downloading stuff, the 20GB version will not cut it, and you will end up buying a larger HDD which costs more than $100 for 60GB or higher. The 80GB is the true PS3. There is no need for 40GB version. 9 out of 10 people would rather get the better model even if they do not use all the features. The funny thing is that those who do settle for lower model end up spending more money in long run.

As for Backwards compatibility, I have seen issues on my 60GB, the main issue being Chrono Cross freezing. which is a PS1 game which is suposedly flawless. But Sony never promised flawless BC, in anycase who said PS3's were still even using the hardware for BC. With the latest update, all PS3's will use the same firmware right? Which could mean that all PS3s are software emulating, which is why Sony removed the chip in the first place.

Honestly though, I'd say 15% of people max care about BC. Most people are interested in the next-gen games and/or movies (blurays). The PS2 upscaling really doesn't look all that good IMO, and certainly isn't even in the same league as a PS3 game. That said, I fully expect the 40 gig to sell extremely well. I maintain the 20 gig needs to drop to at least 350 to do well.
