I have a 20GB PS3 also...The writing was on the wall for this to happen. The 20GB works out perfect for people who don't play online games like me.

I have a 20GB (it's all I could find at the time, and 20GB is better than no PS3) and feel it's fine for online gaming. Of course, I have my home wired with CAT-6, so no biggie.

I was wondering how the 20 GB ps3 would do and now I know. It didn't really make any sense to make a 20 GB and a 60 GB when more people would just get the 60 and not the 20. If you apply the updates on the 20, then you don't have much room left for other things. I'm down to 46 I think out of 55 GB on the 60. The 20 was never in high demand anyway. The 60 is what everyone wanted including me. Nice try by Sony.

All, you have to do is upgrade the HDD and it will be like the 60GB version but without the wi-fi and card readers. I've been using a USB flash drive on 20GB.

Does the PS3 have a gigabit port on it? I know in the early specs it had claimed it was going to, I didn't really pay attention to whether it actually did or not.

I guess the end was coming all along anyway. I grabbed a 60gb model because the ps3 was expensive enough anyway, so if I already paid so much why not just shell out a bit more and opt for the better one?
Yes, I know, I'm a sucker and got marketed to by SCEA hahaha ![]() |

I think the extra cost of a seperate production lines in the end did not justify it. Plus, it'd be hard to get 20GB drives in bulk.
I think the HDD space will be a revolving one. As soon as the top end 2.5" SATA becomes cheaper, 60GB will be the lower end, then 80GB then 100GB and so forth. Regardless, this is good for consumers since they know that it is good for them. fuad |

I don't look at it as a good or bad thing. At the time (12/1), the 20GB was all that I could find. I'm not willing to sell my current 20GB at a loss just to pick up a 60GB. Besides, if and when I need more space (not likely anytime soon), I'll an an external drive or put in a bigger internal HDD.
My PS3 gets used for 2 things. BDs and games. I won't put pics or anything else like that on it, so I'm hoping it shouldn't be an issue. |

Basically they figured most ppl buy the 60 GB and it's a lot more profitable to have the least amount of models. This is where I think Xbox fails. They have so many models and keep coming out with more. It's like when do I want to buy one. Me NEVER!!!!

This is simply a case of the market literally dictating a supply and demand situation.
In this case, the demand for the 20's was so low that there's simply no point from a financial standpoint in continuing with it. |

It's fantastic news, I was always against Sony repeating the MS mistake of releasing more than one version of a console.
Now it is nice and simple - there is only one PlayStation3, while there will shortly be three 360's to confuse consumers! I think MS have missed the whole point of the console; the whole premise of a console is a single item, self contained that does everything the manufacturer wants the consumer to enjoy. It is all too painfully clear that MS are still living in PC world! They just can't bear to make the 360 a truly standalone device! |

You can already get 160GB drives for <$140 so even now the 60GB is really a lower end for anyone that wants to upgrade.

This is a good move for Sony. They are making room for 60GB model to lower price to $499 in the fall and bring out a high end model with 160 or 250 GB high end model for $599.

Exactly. It won't confuse the consumer. Simple choice. One decision. 3 models on the other hand can get confusing when you try to explain it to the customer. |

Why not just have one model of the playstation 3? If you have more then one model, you start to compare features on both to determine what you need.
