Default Belkin N1 WR and PS3

I am having problems with setting up my Wifi. I called belkin and they really had no ideas. My PS3 does a Scan and finds the router but when i test the system it obtains the IP address but it will never connect. It times out and says it is a DNS error. I have heard that you have to obtain port #'s and an IP address from Sony. Is that true? Any thoughts would help?

your DNS is assigned from your modem, whether is be cable or dsl. Make sure your getting a solid connection there first.

I have an old Microsoft Wireless Router. THe PS3 saw immediately, I input the WEP code (a bit of a pain with the remote control) and we were off an running. One of the easiest set ups I have had. Nothing was required from Sony.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Where did you get the WEP Code? Is that what is blocking me from the PS3 accessing the Modem through the router?

Go here , its the online manual for the PS3 use the list on the left and then pick sub-categories. It will show/tell you how to do the setup so it works correctly

http://manuals.playstation.net/docum...ser/index.html

ACTUALLY GO HERE ITS SUB CATEGORIED ALREADY IN NETWORK SETTINGS

I had issues with my N1 and my PS3 when I first got it, but a firmware update for the router fixed it.

The WEP code is security which I set up when orginally setting up the router. The DNS error does not sound like a secuity error.

When I set up WEP security on the router, it generated a 16 or 24 character (can remeber which at the momment) code which must be entered into any device trying to access the wireless router. When first installed the PS3, as part of the setup, it found the router and asked for the code to be input. I did so (took several tries to get right with the controller) and immediately connected. One of the slickest installs ever. I was very impressed with as easy/well the whole process worked on the PS3.

What else do you use to access the router? What typed of install issues have you had?

None, no issues at all. The router works fine between the modem and itself. The PS3 knows the Router is there because it finds it andobtains the IP address but when it connects it timeouts.

Yeah, I also have an N1 WR and had absolutely no trouble getting my PS3 to connect. If your WR is setup to authenticate any connection to it using WEP then you must enter a WEP security code. However, the router can be setup so that no code is required to connect to the WR. Note: this is not recommended because anyone can then access your Internet connection. All that is needed is for them to be in range and voila instant access.

I don't have a WEP code or I have no idea i had to have one but when seeting up my router with my modem no code was required so I assume i don't have one. But this would not cause the DNS error, would it. Also, what does the strength have to be. Mine has been jumping around from 57-90% will the 57 cause it to timeout.

I have Verizon's FIOS router and had the identical experience in setting up my wireless network to work with my PS3. The PS3 sees the network but couldn't log on.

When I disabled WEP security on the router the PS3 loged right in. I did the firmware update and then reactivated WEP. No difficulties after that point setting the PS3 to work with the secure network after that.

What firmware do you have? I have the latest, so i think i do (i logged on to my router and checked firmware update and it said no update needed), but is my problem security?

It's the current firmware available - I just set up my PS3 this last Friday night.

Temporarily disable your router's security encryption for wireless (don't forget to turn it back on afterwards) or use a network cable for your connection.

In all probability your problem is security. Log into your WR and go to the security settings. Disable WEP security there. You should be able to connect if you have the latest firware updates. Ensure that your PS3 does not connect via WEP and use DHCP. You are, in all probability, getting DNS errors because the PS3 cannot access the Domain Name Server (DNS). In other words, you are not connected to the Internet.

So select none on the PS3 after I disable the WEP on my router, thanks I will try that.
