Default Could we lose the sales numbers this week?

Hi,

I've been looking into HD Media sales and a lot of the best selling Blu Rays this week are pre-orders (Spiderman, Pirates 3, Rat, Cars, ect.) Looking at the Kubrick movies HD DUDs seems to be selling a little bit better then Blu Rays.

Add to that Transformers remains the best selling title on Amazon and DVD Empire has HD DVD winning this week 51/49.

It would be patently crazy to lose this week after winning the big challange last week. But,.. I only bought 1 Blu Ray because I know I'm going in for 3 on Tuesday at least (spiderman trilogy.) Since many usual buyers are reeling from the BOGO sales and HD DUD is giving away lots of discs with players and also the Xbox add on, I'm worried about losing this week.

I think if DUD was going to win ever it was last week but this week looks like there are lots of things coming togeather that would pull them slightly ahead,.. please tell me it's not possible.

I want them to be shut out fully,.. they deserve to know DUD is a DUD.

-Brian

I hear what you are saying. Unfortunately, my next 8 titles are pre-ordered and won't start shipping until 'Cars' is release on Nov 6th and 'CE3K' is released on Nov 13th. I can't think of any other titles that I want to get this week for the listed prices.

The Kubrick discs are delayed for Blu-ray on Amazon.

Personally I doubt more than one of the Kubrick movies will trouble the top ten sellers this week.

Titles like Meet the Robinsons and Hostel 2 will be this weeks bigger sellers.

They don't count.

I'm with Petra - I've got quite a few pre-orders pending now. Since I'm cheap (ah, a wise spender) and always use free shipping mode some of the October 23 releases haven't been shipped to me yet. If Best Buy starts to regularly do what they've started (maybe as a pilot or a test) on some items for new releases and have competitive prices (on release day anyhow), I might start be a regular customer at Best Buys again.

When the Disney films get rolling out, it won't matter.

Cars, Rata-something-or-other, HS Musical, on and on. Buy, buy and buy some more.

Lost season 3 FTW!

HS Musical was a HUGE movie for Disney.

My daughter and her friends love this movie.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it sell like crazy when it comes out.

I will be forced to buy it.

Not the ones in the boxes, but the ones that are separate should count. Including the Heroes box sets with the add-on and 2 free movies of people's choice at Best Buy. At least Disney seems to be trying to win this week too, with 25% off on some of their titles that I saw at Best Buy yesterday or the day before.

I wouldn't be too confident in that one. Transformers could do 40k or more this week and I'm not sure MTR will do that. But, even if Transformers is the #1 title for this week too, Blu-ray could still win it. I would make Blu-ray the favorites, but think HD DVD still has a chance of winning the week.

I think that HD has a very strong sporting chance. It will probably be something like 60:40 BD... that is just my prediction. I dont think that we will blow them out of the water this week...

Default Do you think that Last weeks Best Buy HD DVD giveaway will affect this weeks numbers?

Hey, I feel that I can talk about this now that the deal is over. But all over the Hot Deals forum was an absolutely crazy HDDVD giveaway at Best Buy.

Last week for $180, the cost of the xbox add on... you would get
1) xbox hddvd drive
2) xbox remote (in the box)
3) KONG (in the box)
4) Free Heroes HDDVD set $100 value
5) Free Box set, most people picked up matrix $100 value
6) Free Box set, most people picked up planet earth, though you could get sopranos or something worth $100.
7) Five free movies(mostly garbage titles though)

At MSRP, thats 25 kong +300 for 3 box sets+100 for the free movies. Thats a ridiculous $425 worth of movies just for buying the player.

A lot of people bought in on this. And 3 box sets probably will count on the weekly sales numbers. With that said, what do you think about this weeks numbers? Unfortunately, the Cheap Bastard in me couldnt resist the deal even though I dont have a 360.

Even though, I have a low post count here you can see on the other forum that I am a big BD supporter.

So you have the Hd add-on & NO 360?

That is not cheap espeshly since they are just paperweights to you.

The 360 is too loud for me, puts out a lot of heat & to use it as hddvd, no thanks. Just for games for me.

I read a review from a professional, don't remember where, that said the Xbox 360 add-on had terrible picture quality. Also, the Xbox 360 has to run while the add-on runs which means quite a bit of noise, and with the unreliability of the box there should be many returns. I read in the Official Xbox Magazine about someone on his fourth one. I'm on my second and if it weren't for Halo being pretty good I would have sold it already. I think I may anyway when Call of Duty 4 is released on the PS3. From what I've seen and heard it is supposed to blow Halo away like a space nuke.

With Spidey 3 and the entire trilogy coming out, I don't think it'll affect this week/next week.

For Sales, I am just wondering about the week that past.

I have the add on practically sold for $120(without KONG, but with the crap 5 MIR). And I bought, but havent opened the HDA2 for $160 (I know 1080i).

I am going to wait a couple weeks before opening, since I dont know wether or not this is the final desperation gasps or just a mistake by best buy

And I am sure I could get $60 for those other box sets.. so that I can break even if I return the stand alone player

this week is dangerous, given the BB "price mistake" on the HDDVD add on. Which gave people 3 box sets, Kong and 5 more movies MIR for $180
