Who bought Christmas Vacation? - Blu-ray Forum

I know there have been threads on this already but what I wanted to know was if you bought it or didnt and why. Personally I didnt take the plunge cause of its piss poor reviews and horrible sound but that is just me. Its a Xmas classic but I cant bring myself to settle for a horrible transfer. (granted I havent seen it, i have just read reviews) What about everyone else?

it's not an absolutely terrible transfer...but it's the type of movie where there is no need to purchase it on blu ray especially if you already own the widescreen special edition dvd...it's one of those movies that can't be justified upgrading, as it's just a comedy, and a holiday movie...no need to get it on blu (i rented it with BB total access to check out pq/aq)

it wasnt the PQ that held me back on this title. as you stated it is a comedy, and a holiday one at that and I dont really NEED Pirates quality video. It was the SQ that I wanted. Even though it would probably be very front heavy, they can do better than stereo! it frusterates me

Been using the same VHS tape for years... never bought on DVD. Purchased Blu-ray version of it along with my friend... Can't wait to watch it... Waiting till closer to christmas...

Sucks its not the greatest version it could be.... But it might be along time till we get a proper Blu version !

The quality was so so picture wise. It looked good at times but other times looked like sd. The audio couldve improved by a lot more.

I bought it. but Its from a B2G1 deal. And I dont have this on any other format.

Just got this title 2 days ago. Watched it earlier this afternoon. Fills the entire screen so 1:85 aspect ratio. Sure beats the pan and scan version on dvd. Thought overall a decent upgrade so I'd recommend this one.

no one here was disappointed with the purchase? I admit it could be better. But if no one is disappointed, I might get this title before xmas!

Yeah, same as everyone else. Could have been better - but its an improvement over the SD version.

I own 4 versions of this film.

1 DVD - Collectors Edition
1 DVD - Original Edition
1 Laser Disc
1 Blu-ray
1 Soundtrack - Cost me $75 bux but it's super rare and I wanted it so

Going to make a shadow box of all the versions for nostalgia reasons.

Watched it about a week ago on Blu-ray and of course it (transfer) could have been done better but who needs lossless audio on a movie like this its just all enjoyment even with stereo.

I have the regular dvd also I just love the movie what can I say haha
I have the europeon and original on dvd. Maybe one day they will bring those out with better transfers.

Big fan of this movie. Needs some touch up. Some of this movie looks beter on TV.

Not really. See the issue # of that cd? The one I bought was number 480 something of the first 500 produced. Not in the thousands

I didnt buy it simply because I have absolutely no interest in it. I'd rather spend $25-$30 on one of the 50 movies I have on my wishlist more

I bought this and was not disappointed at all. I think alot of people expect Spiderman or Pirates transferes and hold alot of movies to those standards. This movie was not filmed for High Def but non the less looks really good on blu ray.

The reason I didn't buy it is because they used the MPEG-2 Codec, which is no better than a DVD, in fact its the same codec used on DVD's I prefer to get a higher quality transfer using a higher based codec such as MPEG-4 or VC-1. I'll hold out for a HD Remastered version before I buy that...perhaps I am too tech saavy for my own good.
