EDIT - it’s possible my player might be going out on me.
I tried Little Miss Sunshine, Parental Guidance, and The Way Way Back. None of them would load up. I thought it was a firmware problem but I’m up to date. Anyone else have issues with these discs? I put in Me, Myself, and Irene and Victor Frankenstein; they loaded up. Same with other studios. Anyone else have issues with Fox discs? Last edited by TheBluRayBandito; 03-20-2025 at 09:14 AM. |

FYI, these are not Disney discs. These dropped while 20th Fox wasn’t sold to them. |

If Disney replaces the discs, they may have white labels with the Mill Creek logo depending on what stock Disney has. |

I was speaking to a friend just the other day and they said their copy of There's Something About Mary would no longer play. Their tried it on two players and it wouldn't even get to the menu.
I watched Me Myself And Irene about a month ago and had no issues. |

These other discs didn’t work either: .Mr. Popper’s Penguins .Take Me Home Tonight I can’t believe this shit is happening. Mary, Little Miss Sunshine, Way Way Back, and Take Me Home Tonight are enjoyable films and I’m bummed they no longer work. |

Just checked my copy of Little Miss Sunshine after seeing your post, and it played fine.
Manhattan and Hannah and Her Sisters were also fine. Tested on a Panasonic 420. Maybe it depends on which disc pressing? All three were purchased well after the release date. Little Miss Sunshine was released in 2009, and purchased in 2019. The other two discs were purchased 3 weeks ago. Last edited by a priori; 03-18-2025 at 09:39 AM. |

BTW, this issue with blu-ray releases from that period is not exclusive to Fox titles. For example some of Criterion's early BDs had the same issue: initially plays fine, but years later you can't even get to the main menu, even though there is no sign of bronzing. (In the case of Criterion though, they know it's an issue and replace the discs without any hassles. The Lady Vanishes and Summer Hours are two that I got replaced.)

I had a problem with The Poseidon Adventure, I posted this in the "Early Blu-rays that may have playback issues" thread a while back:
My copy of The Poseidon Adventure is bad, showing the same freeze/glitchy playback like Psycho II was doing (past the 1 hour mark - probably at the layer change). One recommendation: don't forget about imports. I wound up importing several titles to replace the U.S. discs that had gone bad. |

Only problem with that is that a lot of times US discs will have OG audio and international discs won't, Fox was one that excluded OG audio in international discs in exchange for more foreign dubs

My copies of Laura and Norma Rae freeze up and do not advance. I was able to find a new copy of Norma Rae, but Laura now steep pricing. It looks like I better go through my Fox titles and see what still works. It sucks knowing these will be difficult to replace and zero chances of them being licensed to anybody.
