this movie was garbage..i wonder how this got a 3.5 overall and apocalypto got a 2.0?..maybe because it's a sony movie..but let me tell you, this movie looks like it was filmed in 3 days..it's seriously the worst movie i've seen this year..god i wish i would've bought letters from iwo jima instead today

umm i thought that it was ok for a horror flick and Apocalypto might not have got such a great score because it was subtitled or something. I refuse to watch it.

I didnt care for Vacancy much, even for a horror movie it was a little under par. I didnt watch the BD version though, not really something i would waste money on.

well i did not say it was AWESOME or SPECTACULAR i just said it was OK, and Kate Beckinsale in 1080p is worth it!

Watched Vacancy this afternoon. It was OK. Could have gone a lot deeper with the idea of "horror", was more like a mild thriller. Then again, my mind is warped from watching torture porn like Hostel and Saw.

I just watched it tonight. Decent flick but pretty light on the horror. A lot of scenes were a tad soft and some had pretty good detail but certainly not a disc to show off BR with. With Sony's track record, I would guess this was more to do with the cinematography than the transfer.

What does that mean? Are you saying that the horror genre in general does not go by the same standards as other genres or is of a lower quality? If so, I'd disagree to the highest degree possible.

Why does a horror film have to have a "twist" in it for it to be satisfying?

Not all blu rays are good movies....I would never pay for Ghost Rider, sure it looks awsome but thats not enough to warrant a buy after the rest sucked so bad. But I do see where you are coming from about watching it for yourself, I'll probably add it to netflix sometime, I just hate it when new blu's come out on it because it takes forevor before I finally get it in the mail.

i thought it was good, short and to the point. i don't buy a movie just cause it's new and on blu-ray. some movies you need to rent before you buy.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. I agree with the above comment - this is a thriller not a gore horror movie and if you go into it expecting that of course you would be disappointed. Kate Beckinsale was great in this movie as well. Luke Wilson .... not on my list of fav. actors for a reason-could have been anyone in that role.

As someone said this is not a horror movie at all. It is a suspense/thriller. And it blew ass.

Just because a film has gore in it does not automatically make it a horror film. You can find plenty of gore in thrillers too besides other genres and "Vacancy" can be considered both a horror film and a thriller (or simply a horror/thriller). Horror films are meant to scare or cause fear: thrillers are meant to thrill or keep one in suspense. The genres can often be interchangeable because a thriller can also scare you and a horror film can keep you in suspense, obviously.

I get easily annoyed when people make these ridiculous assumptions.

That would have ruined it for me because that is EXACTLY what I was expecting. However, ***SPOILER ALERT***

Default Wtf

I tend to just pick up Blu-rays if they look interesting to me. I've learned to not go off reviews because half the time the reviews blow. I have yet to watch a new Blu-ray I've picke up and think "maybe I can unload this crap with a trade or something...", but I will say that Primeval pushed that line for me!

For Vacancy, I liked the premise set up at the motel. I kept expecting to hear Luke Wilson exclaim WTF as he was scanning through the VHS tapes on top of the TV. Plus it reminded me of a dive motel room from my past...
