Default Regarding Spider-Man BD Sales

First off, my contribution this early in the week is that I went ahead and purchased the Spider-Man Trilogy on BD and its definitely amazing what a difference Hi-Def can do for a movie. I will also purchase approximately an additional 20 BD movies before the end of the week to help our numbers grow. Now, on to my point, how are the number of copies regarding the release of Spider-Man 3 this week will be counted (i.e., regarding the Trilogy Pack, will they just count the individually packaged Spider-Man 3 BD in the Trilogy Pack as "a copy sold" or will they report the number of individual Spider-Man 3 BD sold not including the Trilogy Pack, etc?

That's a good question.

I believe they'll report the Trilogy and standalone numbers separately (i.e. by SKU) and leave it up to the math skills of the reader (oh oh ) to determine the overall.

I don't think anyone would complain if Sony combines the two to annouce the Spidey-3 sales.

From the Amazon numbers, it looks like the Trilogy is by far the more popular purchase. It's ahead of Transformers, which is amazing.

my guess if you are figuring total s3 sales, they probabaly would combine them for the number then maybe give a breakdown afterwards.

No matter how it's done, the HD DVD fans will find some arcane calculus to show why it doesn't matter.

It was just the opposite for me...low TF sales and high Spidey sales in my area.

TF has been out for two weeks, so it's really no surprise that the trilogy is beating it. Actual Amazon sales rank is a tad low though - TF was rank 4-5 throughout its launch week, while the trilogy and SM3 are 22 and 61 respectively this week. Expect solid, but not ground shattering numbers by the end I'd say.

I respectfully disagree frode. The price for SM3 and the trilogy at BB were 30 and 60. At target 30 and 69.99. Target was sold out of the trilogy yesterday, and only 6 copies of sm3 were left. BB had a whole lot more so I don't think they sold out. I expect spidey to shatter records.

Well you have to count them together, so ure underscoring the numbers, who knows what their combined numbers would look like. TF did not get separate releases so its a tough comparison based on amazons rank.

I'm not sure how we'll do vs transformers.
I'm sure we'll take the top two spots, but I don't think the summation will be above transformers 112k or whatever.

I picked mine up at around 2pm at best buy. They had assloads. Like 20+ on the shelf and 30+ on a spidey stand. I think I was one of the first buyers.

That isn't a reasonable comparison since day-and-date has such a huge advantage. And with SM:1 and SM:2 only $32 extra at Best Buy, it was an easy choice for many if they were already planning on getting SM:3.

that's not a reasonable comparison....

The Matrix series was one that has been out and all movies were available only in the box set...

SM3 was new and sold seperately....the box set was for anyone who wanted all 3...

They need to report the numbers separately. You can't really double dip since SM1 and SM2 were in the boxset as well. Both numbers need to be reflected though since they are tied together.

For an accurate number it needs to be SM3 discs sold to the consumer, not box set sales nor PS3 sales including SM3.

If your banking on Spider-Man 3 Blu-Rays to beat Transformers sales don't count on it. The boxset is what most people are buying and people are getting the new PS3 which automatically means they aren't buying it.
