Default And it begins...

I was gettin pretty tired of seeing Transformers as the best selling high def disc, finally spiderman takes the lead.

I'm sure if there was no trilogy release, the margin between spiderman 3 and transformers would be much bigger but combined the spiderman trilogy and spiderman 3 (which also is doing good) will give blu-ray a big boost. And I'm sure this is the last we will ever hear of an HD DVD taking the top spot.

I think it will be close the first week, even though transformers is a much more entertaining movie,Spidey has a loyal following.

I think you will see the bottom fall out on Transformers. I think that anyone that was going to pick this up, picked it up on release day or week. It is done and will continue to fall every week in my opinion.

Amazon has always mattered, its just not the only thing that matters and therefore is not a direct represantation of sales. Nontheless, besides Transformers I have never seen another HD DVD in the top spot and I doubt I will ever agian.

You know, Ratatouille is going to sell more than Spiderman 3, while both will outsell Transformers, IMO.

I dont know if thats true, at this point at least. Right now I would imagine most Blu-ray users are geeks (like myself) who love comic book heroes. It seems as if the "family" man is in the minority here, but who knows.

Shrek 3 may give HD-DVD a boost over the holdiay season, but that will be it. Pirates III will bury it.

Spidey 3 despite all its flaws and disappointments is too way better than Transformers! Although Transformers was decent it has no substance and doesn't hold a candle to the original cartoon movie unfortunately. Spidey 3 will trounce Transformers in sales as well it should because it was the superior movie.

This is a "PS3 gamer type" movie for sure. Big numbers the first week with continued strength throughout the rest of the year.

so will the trilogy also count as a sale for spiderman 3? or is the trilogy sale separate? if it counts as a spidey 3 sale then I think trans will be dethroned.

Well, they will be tracked separately by Nielson, but Sony will undoubtedly combine the two sales figures when they issue their press release stating that SpiderMan 3 was the fastest selling HD disc yet. I just hope Sony sticks to the Nielson figures and doesn't pull a Paramount and inflate the number to ridiculous proportions.

I'm a family man and having my daughters movies on blu-ray are out of the question for me mainly because I'd rather her have the opportunity to watch her movies wherever she wants, not just on the main TV.

If the movies would come with a DVD copy as well for maybe only $5 more or so I would be all over that.

@thrlride: Ah, you must be a combo-hybrid-flipper fan.

If I didn't have kids I'd be getting all 3 Pixar releases anyway, which is probably pretty geeky.

If the girls' biggest disappointment today is having to choose something from the DVD collection because football is on in HD the den, I'll be sleeping just fine tonight.

No combo's here. It'd be more about convenience and saving money to me. The convenience of playing the movie anywhere and spend a couple bucks extra for that added convenience instead of spending another $20 for the same movie.
