Default Interesting article (old) regarding Warner

I was going through some old articles online and found some interesting quotes about Warner's entry into BD.

"[The disc] would have a high enough capacity for our movies, and it would have a lower cost than the [25GB] BD-25. The advantage would be lower costs to manufacture the disc, because it could be manufactured on existing [DVD production] lines. Certainly, most of our movies will fit on a BD-9. The issue will be how much enhanced content will we put on there. For basic movies, most will fit on BD-9."
They wanted to be able to put out regular movies on a 9GB disc?!? What were they planning.....720p?

Yes, HD DVD was originally a red-laser 720p format

That was right around the time Warner sold their replication facilities, so they had a vested interest in the whole "must be manufacturable on retooled existing lines" thing

So is there such a thing as BD-9 in the Blu-Ray spec? I'm assuming they had to put it in there to get Warner on board.

I guess there could be, but no one is using it. Just like they call "miniDVD" when you use DVD file structure on a CD
