Default Digital Video Essentials vs THX Optimizer

Hello everyone...I'm curious if the new Digital Video Essentials calibration disc on bluray would be better than the THX Optimzer that I've been using.

At the moment, the THX Optimizer is giving me a cinematic film look that I really like, but if the new DVE can take it up another notch, I'd like to try it.

Oh, I'm currently on the dinosaur stage in Ratchet & Clank. :-)

Thank you.

Hi,

I would say it depends on your display device and how adjustable it is.

You can rent the Digital Video Essentials on DVD and see what it is because the HD version is the same except for being in HD and all.

It's good for audio setup too.

I have a CRT Front Projector so everything has to be setup from scratch.. Optical Focus, ElectroMechanical Focus, Geometry, Convergence, and Grey-Scale so having a test disc is handy. If I had a Display that only let me tune a few things though like Brightness and Contrast then the Optimizer patterns are perfect.

Did the DVE BD come out then? I see it's listed for today but a while back there were rumours of a delay ... anyone have it in hand?

THX Optimizer is a title specific simple calibration tool. It's designed to calibrate your TV for that particular title, and give you a baseline

DVE is for the fine details, a true calibration
