Please Help. I just bought a new Samsung 1080p lcd (4066) and a Panny blu ray. Had to return the blu ray and ended up with a Samsung Bd-p1200. Great looking player, picture quality is out of this world. I have it set on my old onkyo 5.1 reciver through the optical cable. HDMI through HDMI. Sound is great. No problems with BD disks yet. SHOULD i keep the 1200 or go to a new player like the 1400. I know the 1200 doesnt have all the AUDIO options like the 1400. Now i have to get a firmware for the 1200 (ver 1.0) and wait for the next firmware to play FF2 ROTSS or TDAT. My wife is ready to shoot me. Should i keep the 1200 or get the 1400, or a diiferent BD player. (NO PS3!!!!!). Also, i like the audio i have now, is there much difference with the 1400 and new audio. I might not get a new reciver for quite some time. Help!!. Just want to make sure i am not buying something old and outdated. Thanks for the help. Great site and BLU RAY is #1

The 1200 is old and outdated already. Switch to the 1400 - you won't regret it. Better specs, newer generation, same price(ish).

And currently the 1200 is not playing a few FOX titles. Patient 1200 owners have to wait for firmware(myself included). It is a great player and does superb upscaling. Maybe doesn't decode some audio, but its FAR from being outdated as its only been on the shelf for 7-8 months. But if you're just buying a player now, why not buy the current 1400 model?

The 1400 does NOT have the HQV video processing for std dvd like the 1200 does, but the newer 2400 does have the HQV chip + the extra audio stuff.

As stated above, the 2400 has been cancelled.
The primary difference in features between the 1200 and the 1400 is that the 1200 has the Reon chipset for upconverting (which was scheduled to be in the 2400) and the 1400 has TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding capabilities. What you have to ask yourself is how much is the difference in cost, and can you take advantage of the upgraded audio, if you do not plan on upgrading our AVR. You can purchase the 1200 at Sears on close out for $299. It can still be found for much more at other retailers. I saw the 1400 for sale at BB this weekend for $499. IF they are close to the same price, then maybe the 1400 is the way to go. But to use the advanced audio coding, you have to send it to your AVR over HDMI. Using the optical you will only get the standard DD5.1 or DTS formats. So unless/until you upgrade the receiver, the advanced audio will not be of any use to you. The Reon chipset is supposed the best upscaling chip available. That was a big selling point for the 2400. If you plan on watching a lot of SD DVD's, you might prefer the 1200. Also, if you wait a year or so, you will be able to buy a generation 4 or 5 player, that will no doubt meet all of the specs and have more advanced features. Your call. I have had no problems with the Firmware updates. I just burn the Firmware update to a CD and in less than 5 minutes I am ready to go. If you get the 2nd Firmware update you do not need the 1st one as the newest update will include the older update info. Unless you are made of money and have a wife that will let you keep buying new Blu-Ray players every 9 months or so, I would keep the 1200. I love mine and I have had it since last March.
