Default The wire on blu ray?

Hey I was wondering if there was anyway that HBO might release the wire on bluray. I know it seems like a long shot but I would never feel my collection is complete without seeing Omar little on bluray.

Would love to have it on Blu Ray as well but I doubt we'll ever see it. The show was shot 4x3 and the creator has said this is the way it should be watched. It also doesn't have a huge following so chances are pretty slim that we'll ever get it in HD

Since Deadwood, HBO has been pretty lax on releasing their "catalogue" titles. I'd love to see most of their series hit Blu, but since they haven't even finished releasing The Sopranos, I'm getting a bit worried we wont see much more released.

David Simon said he didn't like widescreen and HD, but then he went on to make Generation Kill and Treme, which are in widescreen and HD.
He did feel strongly about the 4:3 framing, and I have to agree on that. But that's no reason for no Blu-ray release, since the original framing obviously should be kept intact. The Wire was shot on film, so it'd be very much possible.

I really wish HBO would issue this series on Blu-ray. The DVD picture quality looks horrible. There is so much micro-blocking and compression that the video quality really suffers.

And while their at it... they should also release the entire Sopranos series on Blu-ray already. What's the deal???

It's been discussed already. My personal take on this is that the remastering process will be very costly and the sales will probably be underwhelming.

Here's the main thread for discussion about wanting The Wire on Blu-ray:

The Wire

Pretty much everything we know, don't know, and speculate has been talked about there.

I'd love to see a Blu-ray release, but based upon all of the available information, it doesn't look likely in the foreseeable future.
