So, I've been searching the forum for an answer, and it seems it hasn't been discussed yet. Or maybe I didn't look hard enough.
The point is I recently bought 16 BLOCKS on Blu. It says right here on the back cover that the disc includes the alternate ending (which I love) incorporated into the film and as a separate alternate scene as well, just like the DVD. Well, I've been looking and I can't figure out how to play the movie with the alternate ending. In the DVD it was pretty easy: the main menu would give you the option, Theatrical Version or Alternate Version, but on this disc, the movie starts playing right away and the version it plays is the theatrical version (which I hate). There is no option in the Special Features menu that allows you to play the alternate version of the movie, so I'm lost. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks! |

Not only I liked it. I loved it! But only the alternate version. It's funny, had I seen the theatrical version first, I would have hated it. Fortunately, I saw the alternate version first and I fell in love with that film.
Don't tell me you hate it? |

Thank you. I already gave up. Unless it's some kind of easter egg, the alternate version of the film is not on the disc, I think. It's not a complicated disc, it's almost a barebones release.

I do seem to remember the alternate ending available as a special feature, but I'm pretty sure it was even in SD, so you're probably right. Still, I'll have a look just in case later today. |

Well, on the DVD, you could play the movie with the alternate ending incorporated into the film. And it says the same on the back cover of the blu version, that's why I bought it. But it seems the back cover was full of s***, heh.

F***! Seriously?! I hate the theatrical version. I may have to return it, then, or trade it for Transformers. :/

Seems so. Not to defend Warner's regurgitation of the HD DVDs artwork, which would have been accurate, the HD DVD being a combo format release with the branching SD DVD on the flipside, but I'm not sure branching was available on either high def format when this title came out. It was one of the studios earliest releases. Replication wasn't as refined then either; BD50's weren't available yet, and even for a BD25 they had less disc space they could count on being usuable.

By the way Julie, you've got a very long name. But it's cool. |

It was disappointing to me. I bought the DVD as a blind buy and I should have just rented it. I am a big fan of Mr. Willis but this one I thought was a let down.

Anyone would take a few seconds to check what language audio tracks are available in your disc menu?
My copy offers English and German, despite the packaging back cover stating there is a French language track along the original English one. I got my copy from amazon.ca and they are looking into this and sending me another copy. Thanks! Edit : Nevermind, amazon.ca sent a correct copy. Last edited by Deromax; 01-26-2011 at 10:05 PM. |

I prefer the alternative cut ending (which was actually the original ending) - the fact that the Warner blu ray failed to incorporate this cut except as adding the ending to the extras menu and that the audio is only DD5.1 made me look elsewhere so i purchased the French disc by Metropolitan - the full alternative cut is included with the theatrical version and the audio is 5.1 lossless dts ma - fantastic . There are no forced subtitles. Disc is region B.
I have seen the Warner bluray and the picture quality is good - the Metrpolitan transfer is also good with the main difference being that colours are a lttle more subdued and subtle in the French transfer - the image is sharp ( a little bit of mild edge enhancement in places). Glad i held out for this disc. |

So I just bought this yesterday and to my surprise it doesn't include a viewing experience with the alternate ending, which I think is the better ending.
I've owned this on DVD for quite a while, so it makes it pretty odd that the DVD can view the alternate ending, but the Blu-ray cannot? What's even weirder is that box even advertises being able to watch the film with the alternate ending. Wonder what happened here. |

I liked it a lot!
Watched it many times channel surfing. When I see it I always stop. As Bruce Willis films go this one is so much better than his Death Wish remake. Also, David Morse...oh so evil! I put this film in the good side of the Bruce Willis catalog. edit: I just read about the difference between the theatrical and alternate ending [once I read it I remembered it from the DVD I own somewhere] and sorry Julie...I like the happy ending but the alternate is much more dramatic. It's good to have seen them both though. edit 2: I just looked at my bluray/dvd spreadsheet and realized I have 3!!! copies of 16 blocks on DVD [probably bought for $1 each time] but no bluray. Just bought a copy on ebay brand new. This thread got me fired up over 16 blocks! Last edited by 50strat54; 08-11-2020 at 02:54 PM. |

For what it's worth, I did just watch the film and thought the theatrical ending was better. |
