Default SCEE blocks Street Fighter HD release due to 'faults and other problems'

Quote:
Go figure. Although American players have been able to enjoy Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for quite some time now, European PS3 owners have been left in the dark. We've heard the cries before: "blame Sony," they'd say.

thePSN.co.uk had a chat with Capcom UK's Leo Tan to find out why SCEE is denying release of the game. According to Tan, Capcom has already submitted the game to SCEE twice. However, SCEE is declining release of the game, noting "faults and other problems." Supposedly, the game must be "redone."

Capcom is working on yet another version to submit to SCEE "within three weeks." We find it quite strange that, in spite of a successful release in the US, Sony's European counterpart has become the sole roadblock in this game's worldwide release. Certainly, there must be some reason why they'd constantly delay this game.
Source: Joystiq

So you US players, how many 'problems' are there?

Its nearly useless to play it online, 95% of the times the match doesnt start and disconnects. Xbox version plays really well online but also has many glitches like music disappearing and backgrounds disappearing.

On the contrary, I have it for both because I wanted to compare. I found it easier to find matches and play them with very little problems on the PS3 version. On Xbox however, it ws really laggy if I ever even found a match which was rarely.

I can't see any bugs either. The game runs like charm - Have played some online matches and they are easy to find but just be careful not to select one that is full

BTW - I am from Europe and got sick and tired of the wait and created a US account and bought the game that way. Will be buying majority of the PSN games through that account now since it is cheaper but would have never gone through all the hassle if Sony just gave global release dates for PSN games.

I was quite mad about this late release. But now i'm starting to come around to the SCEE way of thinking. If the game has crappy net code and crashes and has an unstable feel to it. I would get the code up to scratch, since its probably the same code that will be used in SF4.

Maybe fighters like SF just can't get the latency right. I mean your talking split seconds right?

I'd rather have the game working at least 99% correct before its release.

What a load of horse crap. I have been waiting forever for this game so that I can enjoy some good old SF2 beatdown. If it is good enough for US, it is fine for us as well. Guess I will just stick to SF4.

Edit: Ever played Tekken online, it sucks!

SCEE have got much higher standards than SCEA. I don't expect it will launch until Capcom get the netcode fixed and trophies are included.

Then I've only been saying this for the last year and a bit...

A UK Capcom PR rep has denied reports citing his name in regards to the delayed release of Street Fighter HD, branding his alleged quotes in them as "false"‬.*

News has surfaced with claims that Capcom has twice submitted the Euro PS3* ‬version of Street Fighter HD to SCEE,* ‬both of which have been denied.* ‬The stories,* ‬which began on news blog* ‬thePSN,* ‬cited Capcom UK’s PR rep Leo Tan as saying the game has not been released due to* ‬“faults and other problems*”‬.* ‬The report also claimed the downloadble title needs to be* “‬redone.*”

Speaking to Edge,* ‬Tan says that the news story* “‬in which I have been quoted as giving specific details on why the game is delayed,* ‬is false.*”

“The site that the story broke on,* ‬I have no idea who they are,* ‬I’ve never spoken to them.*”

In regards to the release of the game,* ‬Tan could not reveal details of its delay,* ‬nor would he state how many times the title has been denied approval by SCEE.* ‬In December,* ‬Edge spoke to* ‬Capcom’s John Diamonon who was* ‬confident that the title would get a Q1* ‬release* ‬in* ‬Europe on the PlayStation Network.* ‬Leo is certain that the game will be released,* ‬but couldn’t specify a date or timeline.*

It was thought that Capcom may need to make additional considerations with Street Fighter HD* (‬officially called Super Street Fighter* ‬2* ‬Turbo HD Remix*)‬.* ‬Namely,* ‬the Feb* ‬20* ‬Euro release of Street Fighter* ‬4* ‬may steal the thunder of Street Fighter HD if it is released contemporaneously.*

Tan,* ‬however,* ‬assured that Capcom’s only purpose in the matter is to release the downloadble title as soon as possible.* “‬I don’t see them as competitive titles,* ‬I think they’re more companion titles,*” ‬he says.* “I don’t think that one will cannibalise sales of the other*; ‬both are different games at different price points.* ‬I’m sure Street Fighter fans consider the games to be different experiences.*”

Lack of trophies is the only reason I haven't bought this game......sucky online also didn't help.

That post delivered no explanation at all. It just walks around the question and falsifies any legitimation of the original claims.

Not necessarily. They just let different things slide, since they are different teams of people.

But yeah. I've played both versions, and the net code is equally poor. On 360, Quick Match doesn't even work most of the time, and on PS3, the lobby doesn't really work. Once you actually get into a match, though, it runs pretty smoothly, although there are some synchronization issues every once in a while, like rollbacks, missing graphics, de-syncs, etc.

It's also pretty clear that Joystiq doesn't understand the submission process at all.

A lot of the multi-plat devs I spoke to in the past were always pissed at SCEE for denying them a release for what seemed trivial/patchable faults to many people.

They are the same with their internal teams as well, Slant Six have had all sorts trying to get SCEE to approve SOCOM before Kilzone 2 released and bulldozed them into oblivion.

Maybe SCEA let alot more slide than SCEE, I do wish they would fix their approval and licensing process to be more unified. Some of the games that Japan are getting on the jPSN store are so awesome, and I would love me some Suikoden, but I really can't be bothered with getting a $20 US PSN card for $30...

Well, you would definitely know better than I do. Just, in my experience, they are fairly similar.

I was just going to say Socom must not be released there than yet. Quite honestley I praise them for it, if quality is the case. Socom should of not been released when it was released. It was unplayable for a month, and still to date does not have features labled in the manual or promised to be in the game at launch.

I am still somewhat amazed there has been no class action lawsuit over this game, must be new terrority for lawyers, but Socom is probably the ideal candidate for it, as it is a online only game, that could not be played online, and has defintie promised and advertised features which are still missing.

I am one of those trying to platinum Socom prior to Killzone2.. as I can see many people not playing that game anymore after it's release. I do not mean to bag on Socom or Slant 6 too much, but I just find it almost mind numbing how they still cannot get a finished game out for a game already developed with 3 of the 7 maps already designed.. the fact that killzone2 is going to be released finished before this game gets patched to meet the level defined in the manual blows my mind. I know Killzone2 had a bigger development team, and money, but Slant 6 has had years for really a transfer os a ps2 game into HD with some new maps, and few new features and they still cannot do it.

If you REALLY want a US PSN card send me a PM, I do pay 7% taxes on them though (I've bought them before) and the paypal fee is I think 2 dollars or something, don't remember. That's all I would ask from you

Yeah, same, although I pay 8.25% tax and might not be able to mail it 6 days per week anymore.

I do plan to swing by Circuit City this weekend, though, so I'll see if I can pick some up for people.

Nah, I prefer to wait as there could be DLC and that stuff is region coded.

Also I want to wait until trophies are included and the netcode is fixed (which I would imagine will coincide nicely with the PAL release).

Cheers for the offers though guys.

After typing Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix so many times, we finally swore to ourselves that we would never, ever buy the game. But those of you less familiar with digit strain should know that Capcom is working on a patch to eliminate any problems you may have encountered in your purchase.

Capcom isn't currently offering any hints as to what boo-boos it'll be bandaging, but we'd bet you'll see more than a couple of the problems on this fan-compiled list getting Tiger Uppercutted.
