Default '1:30 Train' - Chris Evans to Star and Direct

Quote:
Chris Evans Will Direct and Star in ’1:30 Train’

Briefly: Yeah, that Chris Evans. The actor who is now best-known as Captain America will direct the romance 1:30 Train before he goes to work on Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Scripted by Ronald Bass (Rain Man, Entrapment), the movie sounds like a good change of pace for Evans as it follows “two strangers who meet in Manhattan and spend one night together as the conflicts in their own lives become the basis for their exploration of each other and themselves.” Deadline likens the script to the “Before” films from Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, and reading that description it’s easy to see why.

Evans will also star in and produce the film. McG’s company Wonderland Sound and Vision is financing the movie; Evans worked with the Wonderland crew when he acted in the upcoming A Many Splintered Thing. Deadline reports that Evans had been attached to a previous incarnation of the 1:30 Train project with another director, and that he liked the script enough to make it his directorial debut when the chance came up.

Geez, seems every actor and their mom feels the need to direct movies these days

Is it really a bad thing? It's good to see actors who are talented enough to pull off both directing and acting. They shouldn't have to be stuck in one capacity or another. Look at Affleck, the guy turned out to be a better director than actor. If they do well, there's no reason they can't do both sides of the production.

"he liked the script enough to make it his directorial debut when the chance came up."

That makes it sounds like the first director dropped out and Evans just said, "Eh, I'll direct it. Why not."

If they got the talent for it, sure, but not all do. They already got solid careers. Think of all the people that try to work their ways up through the ranks in production crews and whatnot and never get their chance to sit in that coveted seat. It's not as cut and dry as thinking that those with the most talent get the job.

I never said it was. But I also don't think it's right to knock them before they have the chance to prove themselves. Plenty of actors have turned out to be very good directors: Costner, Eastwood, Affleck, Stallone, Howard. Those are just a few off the top of my head. I think if they're getting bogged down by acting and want to take the next step at trying something new, and they have a passion for directing, they should do it. The worst that happens is the movie isn't great, they aren't cut out for it, and they stick with acting. But if they have talent behind the camera, there's no reason they can't do both jobs, and that way they don't get burned out on doing either job. It'll keep them fresh longer.

Seems like everyone's either a writer or director or both these days.

That's actually still a fairly low number of hats.

Some singers see themselves as producers, songwriters, musicians, painters, photographs, poets, novelitsts, models, entrepreneurs (generally in fashion/ parfumes), sports stars and also often look at acting during whatever spare time they have.

Joke aside, I really like Evans since I first saw him in Sunshine a few years back (saw him in the FF movie before that, but it was hard to tell if the airhead was him being himself or the role - since then it's been clear it was the role, Evans is actually a solid actor), so I am actually looking forward to hear more about this.

Most Actors go into films because they want to be directors, but an easy way to learn and familiarise with the filmmaking process is through acting. This runs through with theatre as well.

I'm good with more actor directors, since too many directors focus on explosions and cinematography when they should really be having an intimate back and forth with the actors.

Thats followed closely by:

1) A clothing line
2) An album
3) A perfume and/or cologne offering
4) Trying out for a professional sport
5) Several commercials and sales pitches
6) A car dealership

And who knows what else. The phrase "over-exposure" comes to mind. Cant people just do what they do and have that be good enough? Its even worse on the music side when the 400 trillion dollars they *earn* from music doesnt suffice. Nope...gotta own a business and every other effing thing you can think of. Geesh.

I realize that Ben Affleck did OK with this but that doesnt mean EVERYONE has to. Does it?
